Semey is included into East Kazakhstan oblast and is in north – eastern part of Kazakhstan. The territory of the region comprises the city itself, 14 village and 2 suburb areas. The population of the region is 303 000 of people.

1718 the Russian expeditions under Vasili Cheredov’s guidance arouse along Irtish till the ruins of Buddhist cloister. At the place of the ruins of 7 Houses of Buddhist cloisters Semipalatinsk fortress was founded. 1745 the fortress had been got into the staff of Sibirian guberniya 1782 the fortress gaining town status, became the centre of Semipalatinsk’s uezd. At the end of fifty’s of the XIX century the town authorities undertook some measures for laying construction and improvement of Semipalatinsk. At the middle of XIX century Semipalatinsk became center of themost trade caravan routes.

The nature in the region is unsurpassed and magnificent. Old Irtish unites mountains, steppe and a unique pine – tree forest . The forest is called a green shield of Irtish, a keeper of the regional ecobalance. This is a surviving forest!

Suspension bridge across the river Irtish. Mighty across the river Irtish silhouette from the bridge with its 90 – meters pylons has become a symbol of temporary Semey and a bright example of confident development of sovereign Kazakhstan.
