Why call St. Basils Cathedral St. Basils Cathedral? Earlier, before the XVI century, in the place where now there is St. Basils Cathedral on Red Square in Moscow, there was the church of the Holy Trinity, and in the cemetery at the church was buried Basil Fool (fool-the same as that blissful) .In 1555-1561 years Russian architects Barma and Faster at the behest of tsar Ivan the Terrible built on the site of the old church a new church in honor of the victory of Russian troops over the Kazan Khanate. This temple is called the Intercession on the Moat. Church of the Intercession was unusually picturesque and consists of 9 different-sized churches located around one - center. And in 1588 it was added to another small church - Temple of St. Basil. And the people took it as if it was built in honor of the holy fool Basil, and since then, together with the official name for it, clung popular name - St. Basils Cathedral
