Christmas Tree The Christmas Tree originated in Germany in the 16th century. It was common for the Germanic people to decorate fir trees with roses, apples and colored paper. The Christmas Tree was not wide used in Britain until the 19th century.

Christmas Tree Now The Christmas Tree is a symbol of Christmas. People bring the tree into the house not before the 24th December and decorate it with toys, coloured balls and coloured lights.

The main Christmas Tree Every year there is a very big Christmas Tree in the centre of London, in Trafalgar Square. This is a present from the people of Norway to the people of Great Britain.

Santa Claus The original Santa Claus, St. Nicholas, was born in Turkey in the 4th century. He became widely known for his generosity for the poor for his love of children. British children write letters to Santa Claus and say what presents they want to get and throw them into the fireplace.

On Christmas Eve when children go to bed, they put their stockings near their beds. At night Santa Claus comes. He has got a big bag of presents for children. He puts the presents in the children’s stockings.

Christmas Dinner People bye a lot of food and drink for all the Christmas parties. In the evening English families sit down and eat a big turkey, Christmas pudding and a lot of other tasty things.

On Christmas people wish their nearest and dearest a merry Christmas. English people open their presents on Christmas morning. The day after Christmas is Boxing Day. People usually visit their relatives and friends.
