These days, more and more people are trying extreme diets to lose weight quickly. Some people think these diets are great, but others think they are not good for you. Without a doubt, there are some advantages to these diets. Firstly, you can see results really quickly and this can keep you motivated to lose more weight. Secondly, they encourage self-control, because you have to stay focused for the diet to work. On the other hand, there are some disadvantages to these diets. To begin with, they can be difficult to follow, so you may give up easily and put weight back on quickly. Also, there are many restrictions. This means, you may not get enough nutrients to stay healthy. All in all, there are both advantages and disadvantages to extreme diets. Anyone who wants to lose weight should think about it very carefully and make sure they see a doctor before starting a diet

Suggested answer: Both pictures show people spending time with their pets. But the people, the pets, and the activities are different. In the photo on the left an elderly man is walking his dog. He’s probably retired, so he’s got a lot of time for walks. And the place looks like a village or small town, so there may be some nice green areas to walk in. In the other photo a young woman is sitting on the sofa with her cat. She’s got a mug of tea or coffee and a laptop. We can imagine she’s come back home from work and now she is relaxing in this way. Or perhaps it’s Sunday and she’s resting after a busy week. If she’s got a job that keeps her busy for many hours, then a cat is probably a better choice of a pet for her, as it can look after itself and doesn’t have to be taken for walks. In contrast, a dog may be good for a retired person, to keep them active and give them a reason to get out of the house.

The atmosphere in both photos seems pleasant and relaxed. It looks as if the people enjoy the company of their pets. The woman is smiling and stroking her cat, and the man is looking at his dog, perhaps he is saying something to it. The pets may be very important to them, especially if they live alone. For example, if the man is a widower, or if the woman is single, the pets may be their only companions. But even if they’ve got family and friends, it’s still nice to have a pet. I personally am a cat-lover. I like cats because they are independent and a bit mysterious. And I like the way they look and behave…they are so graceful and elegant, and quiet, too, they don’t bark or yap. I am not saying anything against dogs here, I know they are faithful and everything… but I really love cats and prefer them.

I would like to compare and contrast these two pictures: In both pictures we see people studying. The first picture shows a lecture, perhaps, at university. The teacher might be explaining something to the students. It seems that the lecture is quite interesting because most students are listening to the lecturer. It looks as if some of the students are taking notes. In the second picture, we also see a group of students. Perhaps, they are doing some task at the seminar or a workshop. These pictures have a lot in common: both of them show groups of students engaged in studying. Besides, the action in these pictures takes place in a classroom. What is more, both groups of students seem to be genuinely interested in whatever they are doing judging by their faces and postures. Another similarity is that some of the students in both pictures are writing something.

However, these photos have certain differences, too. In the first picture, the students are not expected to take active participation in the lesson. They are probably expected only to listen to the speaker. While in the second picture the students seem to be active participants. They might be discussing something, or, perhaps, they are playing a game. What is more, in the first picture the students are sitting at the desks with the teacher in front of them whereas in the second picture the students are sitting in a circle. Finally, there are a lot of students in the first picture. In contrast, the group in the second picture is relatively small. Personally, I would prefer to attend the seminar rather than a lecture. Firstly, I believe it is easier to study in a small group because you get distracted less. In addition, I would like to be an active participant rather than a listener. Finally, I believe people remember material better when they have an opportunity to discuss it together or role-play.
