Todays teens can’t live without music. Music is their lifestyle. Nowadays a teenager cannot go anywhere without music - virtually anywhere you can see the teenager listening to music with the player, I-pod or just with the phone. Most of the young people listening to music from 1 hour to three hours a day, many listen to music from three to five hours, and some for more than five hours.

…we and music… Almost all people on the earth listen to the music, and everyone likes their music style. Today technical development allows you to easily listen to any piece of music from different sources: radio, television, means of computer communication, numerous concerts, performances and other. You can easily download music from the Internet and listen to using a mobile phone. The music is an integral part of life of our teenagers. It was interesting to know: what music do teenagers prefer to listen to nowadays? After all, what kind of music teenagers are listening to speaks about their musical culture in whole and so this question became the reason of choosing of our topic.

The aim: to find out what kind of music are listening pupils of our school, to understand the reasons of their choice, to analyze the factors that influenced for musical preferences of teenagers. Tasks: to study the literature on our subject, to learn more about existing musical directions, styles and genres, conduct a questionnaire and survey, to analyze the answers, to formulate conclusions and to give some recommendations.

Hypothesis: we suggested that: • most teenagers listen to pop and rock music, because these genres are very popular, • the musical preferences of children depends on the music which are listened to in the family. The methods we used: analysis of literature and other sources, questionnaire, observation.

Modern music styles, genres and directions… In the world of music there are a lot of genres and kinds. Let us start with some of them. Lets find the most famous kinds of them. Classical music is the music of the past, which had stood the test of time. Generally, an adult audience stand on the position of listening to classical music, who has grown on it. It is musical direction and classics will live for centuries. The brightest representatives of the classics are such greatest composers as Mozart, Bach, Strauss, Tchaikovsky and many others. P. I. Popular (pop) music Modern pop music has been formed parallel to other genres, such as rock music. In the 1950s and 1960s it was the most common form of pop music, sung by one singer-soloist under the background accompaniment. In USA pop music has been closely associated with jazz, in France – with chanson. A significant part of USA pop music scene are black artists in the soul genre. You can hear pop music everywhere and every time because this genre is mainly oriented on the commercial success. Nowadays you can find some celebrities among pop singers such as Katy Perry, Michael Jackson, Maroon 5, Lorde, Lana Del Rey.

Today the music is a major component of life for most teenagers. It determines their decisions and gives them idols. Among the representatives of the Russian popular music are Gradusy, Nyusha, Timati and others, among the foreign performers we can name Pitbull, Skrillex, Rihanna, One Direction. Of course, this is not a complete list of the musical preferences of the youth audience. Pitbull Skrillex Rihanna Nyusha Timati Gradusy

Rock music Rock Music generalizing the name of many music genres. The word «rock» indicates a rhythmic sensations, associated with a particular form of motion, characterizing these areas . Performers of rock using electronic musical instruments. All rock musicians perform his own songs. Rock is a specific subcultural phenomenon, subcultures such as hippies, punks, metal, gothic inextricably linked with certain genres of rock music.

Hip-hop Hip-hop is an African American street music that was born in New York in the 80s, which gave life to other areas of the dance music as breakbeat, jungle, drum and bass etc. Hip-hop is composed of two main elements: rap (rhythmic recitative with clearly defined rhymes) and rhythm defined by a DJ. In this combination rap artists call themselves MCs (MC - Master of Ceremony). Currently, hip-hop is one of the most commercially successful forms of modern popular music. It stylistically represented by numerous directions inside the genre. …the music of the streets and districts… …texts are life stories with typical “hot” “buzzwords”

Club music Club music is the musical composition created by using only all club funds, such as a computer, keyboard and others. The term club music indicates on technology of creation of musical works and does not install any genre and stylistic constraints. Club music can be called the most ambiguous direction in music. It is so diverse and infinite that it even there is no clear distinction between the genres. Tiesto Zedd

The study of musical preferences of teenagers in our school The participants: students from 7 to 11 form Total: 80 students Questionnaire consists of 7 questions

Question №3: «What do musical directions prefer our school’s teenagers?» We see that the majority of students listen to pop music (72,5%) and club music (53,7%). Unfortunately, classical music is not particularly popular among teenagers of our school (13, 7%).

Question №4: “What influences on the choice of musical direction?” We observe that the leading answers are “I like it (51,2 %) and “Its cool (46,2%). Only 8,7 % answered that they are influenced by the musical tastes of the family. 41 students 51,2 %

Question №5: «What musical instruments do you learn to play?» The majority of respondents do not learn to play on any instrument (90%). That’s a pity but only 8 students (10%) can play the musical instruments.

Question №6: «What is the musical preferences of your parents?» The survey showed that most families prefer to listen to Tatar and Russian pop music (62 p). Parents don’t understand the club music (1 p) and rock music (2 p).

Question №7: «How often do you attend concerts?» From the chart we show that 41,2% of the respondents do not attend concerts. 43,7 % attend concerts once a year or once in six months. 15 % attend concerts often.

TV, radio, mass media family tastes “the law of the crowd” or mainstream As a result, most teenagers of our school prefer to listen to pop and club music. They don’t play a musical instruments, don’t attend musical concerts. According to the results of the research, most of the families prefer to listen to pop music too. We can’t agree that the 2nd hypothesis was right: musical tastes of parents and children differ nowadays.

Conclusion: Our research has shown that modern teenagers from all variety of musical styles and directions prefer to pop and club music. All the results of our studies show that the musical culture of the modern teenagers is low. The analysis of the attitude of schoolchildren to the musical styling confirmed that the leading place among them occupies only entertaining music. We would like to continue the research in this direction of improving musical culture of modern teenagers. Now we need to figure out: how to raise the musical culture of teenagers on a higher level?
