Nature Preserves In Primorye

Kedrovaya Pad The conservation area “Kedrovaya Pad” (Cedar Lowland) was faunded in1916. Now it is one of the oldest nature reserves in Russia. The conservation area is located in Khasansky district on the western shores of Amursky Bay. By the diversity of plant species it has no equal in the Russian Far East.

They include such samples of the ancient flora as legendary Ginseng, Eleutherococcus, Aralia Mandshuria.

Its fauna is also original. As to large mammals there are Amur Tiger

and Amur Leopard,

This amazing mosaic of flora and fauna must be preserved by people. The UNESCO awarded “Kedrovaya Pad” a status of the biosphere reserve in 2004.

The Far Eastern State Marine Reserve. The Far Eastern State Marine Reserve was founded in 1978 and it remains the first and still only one in Russia.

The territory of the reserve is divided into sectors.

The eastern sector of the reserve was arranged an area of strict nature protection.

The southern sector specializes in researches related to the problem of conservation of gene pool.

The main task of the scientific production sector in the western sector is to study and produce mariculture .

The northern sector is intended for organization of eco-tourism and ecological education . In 2003 the UNESCO awarded the Far Eastern State Marine Reserve a status of the biospheric reserve .

Lazovsky Nature Reserve Lazovsky Nature Reserve. It’s the most inaccessible and therefore quite pristine. Its virgin taiga hosts 58 mammals species and 340 bird species. Petrov and Beltsov islands are also part of Lazovsky reserve.

There is a unique pointed yew tree grove on Petrov Island. The yew trees grow in straight rows, they might have been planted that way for a religious or ceremonial purpose by a civilization that disappeared long ago.

Rhododendrons’ bright blossoms are a lively decoration of the Primorye forests in spring

The prisky rose is common in the Lazo Preserve. One of the most famous plants of the Far East, Schizandra, has delicious fruit, which can serve as a tonic.

Ussuri State Nature Reservecovers 40.5 hectares in Southern Primorye. Just two hours by car from Vladivostok, this spur of ancient Manchurian forest features a highly varied world of plants and animals including towering evergreen and broadleaf rimmed by thick underbrush bearing hundreds of eligible species of berries and nuts. More than 60 kinds of trees, lianas and shrubs grow here.

The forest is home to the Siberian Tiger and the Ussury Wild Cat, the Black Stork and Mandarin Duck, the Himalayan Black Bear, the Siberian Musk Deer, the Siberian Salamander and many others.

Khanka Nature Reserve Khanka Nature Reserve or it can be called as Khankaisky Nature Reserve is located 250 km to the north of Vladivostok. There are many lotus flowers blooming on Khanka Lake in August.

Over 300 species nest on or migrate through the reserve. During migration, as many as two million birds come through, including White Crane, Japanese Crane, White Stork, geese, ducks, herons and many others. There are more rare birds in this reserve than in any other territory of Eurasia.
