Комплект раздаточных материалов для уроков английского языка: чтение/говорение, тема Ромео и Джульетта
A very long time ago two noble families, who hated each other very much, lived in Italy.
One day a young man from one family met a girl from the other family, and they fell in love.
Their love was so great that they got married in secret, despite the hatred between their families.
The girl's father, who didn't know about her love, decided that she should marry another young man.
To escape the unwanted marriage, the girl drank a medicine and pretended to be dead for two days.
Her secret lover didn't know about her plan, and when he saw her lying "dead," he drank a poison.
The girl woke up and when she saw her dead lover, she killed herself too because she couldn't live without him.
When both families learnt about their children's tragic deaths, they were so shocked they decided to stop hating each other. |

Teacher's notes:
Aim: to practice storytelling in Past Simple through creative collaboration
Age: 12 + Level: High Elementary Time: 20 - 25 min
Aids: 1) a brief summary of Romeo and Juliet in 8 parts
2) sets of 5 cards for each group to write their summary of some other story
3) sets of 8 pictures to illustrate each paragraph for retelling the story
-
Group the students, distribute the sets of cut-out paragraphs and invite the groups to a story-ordering competition (the Ss will have to read and rearrange the paragraphs). Once they are ready, ask the students if they can recognize the story and recall the author. 5min
-
Check the results / correct any mistakes together. Draw the students' attention to the Past Simple tense used in the story. Give each group a set of pictures (face down) and tell them to take turns picking up one picture, retelling what happened and matching it to the corresponding paragraph. Option: make 8 new groups, give a picture to each one, and ask them to match it to the paragraph and retell what happened in their picture. 5min
-
Regroup the students and ask them to recall any popular books they have read or films they have seen, e.g. Titanic, Avatar, Harry Potter, etc. Distribute the cards and ask each group to write up their own short summary of one of those stories in five separate paragraphs. 10min
-
Ask one student in each group to remain at their desk and check while the others go to other groups and re-order their stories. 5min
-
Ask the students whose story was the easiest/most difficult to re-order and why. 1-2min
