Цели и задачи урока: формирование знаний обучающихся по теме «Праздники» и умений оперировать ими, расширение активного словаря английского языка, реализация межпредметных связей.

Образовательные задачи:

- совершенствование практических навыков вледения лексикой по изучаемой теме путем привлечения дополнительного метериала;

- развитие навыков восприятия речи на слух и навыков чтения с целью основного понимания прочитанного;

- развитие навыков аудирования и говорения, ассоциативной памяти, внимания и быстрой реакции,

- формирование умения сопоставлять, давать оценку, выражать свое отношение к обсуждаемой теме;

- формирование навыков письменной речи.

Воспитательные задачи:

- создание условий для формирования у обучающихся уважения и интереса к учению;

- развитие интереса у обучающихся к изучению иностранного языка, культуре и традициям нашей страны и зарубежных стран;

- формирование у обучающихся положительного отношения к традициям и праздникам;

- расширение общего кругозора.

Развивающие задачи:

- развитие оперативной памяти и способности к функционально-адекватному восприятию изученной лексики;

- формирование общеучебных умений и навыков.

Оснащение урока: компьютер, мультимедийный проектор, экран.

Ход урока

1. The beginning of the lesson

Good morning, dear pupils! I'm glad to see you today. I hope you are fine and are ready to work hard at our lesson, aren't you?

The topic of our lesson today is «Talking turkey». We are going to speak about holidays. What holidays shall we speak about? What information should we get about holidays?

You know of course, that there are some public holidays in Great Britain. The most popular holiday is Christmas. It is celebrated on the 25^th of December. People usually spend time at home, with their families, еat special food. Relatives usually meet for the big Christmas dinner of turkey and Christmas pudding. And everybody gives and receives presents.

People decorate Christmas trees with toys and coloured lights, buy Christmas cards and send them to their friends and relatives. Children hang stockings at the end of their beds, hoping that Father Christmas will come down the chimney and full them with toys and sweets. In churches people sing Christmas carols - special religious songs.

And today we are going to have a talk about this holiday. During our lesson we'll do some interesting tasks, read and discuss texts, try to express our attitude to some customs and traditions.

1. Warm-up

- Let's start from the short exercise «Brainstorming», connected with our theme.

Look at the picture of a roast turkey and note down as many associations as you can.

Pupils (one by one) come to the blackboard and write the words.

- Try to guess what 'talk turkey' might mean. (Учащиеся дают свои варианты ответов. Учитель подводит их к смысловому значению выражения: talk turkey - to speak frankly and get down to the basic facts of matter.)

2. Reading

A. - Read two interviews about Christmas (Ex.2 p.43). Decide which bits belong to Lydia, and which to Roy. Put the numbers into the appropriate column and express the main idea.Lydia

- Having read the texts for the second time, fill in the table with the main points of each paragraph. They all are about attitudes.

B. - Let's work in pairs putting questions about each paragraph. Then compare questions and try to change them if necessary.

C. - Answer the questions from Ex.2B and try to express your ideas in four or five sentences. It helps you to start thinking about your attitude to Christmas.

3. Vocabulary

A. - Find the expressions given in bold in the text (Ex.2A) and match them with their equivalents. Draw you attention to the information about colloquial language in the box. Is it more formal or informal style?

B. - What is special about Roy's choice of words?

(фронтальный режим работы, в итоге - подвести к ответу: being a rock musician, Roy uses words in his speech that may be more typical for younger generation).

C. - How do you understand whether they love Christmas or hate it? Which particular words and phrases help to understand it?

(Учащиеся дают ответы на вопросы с опорой на конкретные примеры из текста)

• Place Lydia and Roy on the scale and prove your opinions. Use the following expressions (cлайд)

5. Speaking

• Let's practice asking and answering questions about your attitudes to Christmas. The chart of exercise 4 will help you. Don't give short answers, develop your ideas! You may use the following words expressing attitudes (слайд).

1. So now it's time to come to a conclusion. I hope you have learned a lot of interesting information. What was interesting for you? What have you done at the lesson? What have you learned today?

Now open your diaries and write down your homework. You are to prepare a report for the radio programme summarizing the results of you survey.
