Theme: Contest of the Quick-witted

Grade: 11

Aims of the lesson

Educational: to revise learned material with the help of contests, to enrich students' knowledge of proverbs and idioms;

Developing: to develop students to work in groups in creative atmosphere, to develop their creative abilities through different kinds of activities;

Bringing-up: to increase students' interest in learning the English language, to teach students to respect other cultures.

Methods of the lesson: interactive, communicative approach.

Type of the lesson: lesson-contest

Equipment: an interactive board, computers, a map of the British Isles, authentic materials, Power Point Presentation.

The Procedure of the Lesson

  1. Organization moment (Greeting)

Teacher: Good morning, dear teachers and students! Welcome our dear guests. Glad to see you.

P: We are glad to see you, too!

T: How are you today?

P: We are fine, thank you.

  1. Warming - up activity

Teacher: Look at an interactive board please, read an epigraph of our today's lesson and say why a person needs knowledge (brainstorming).

Teacher: The teams get two kinds of cards: proverbs and idioms with Russian and English equivalents. First one team reads a proverb, and another team must find and name its Russian equivalent. 1 point is given for each correct answer. Let us start now.
