Урок по теме: "Why Learn English ?" 8-ой класс.

Цели:

1. Совершенствовать умения и навыки практического владения английским языком по данной теме в монологической и диалогической речи.

2. Учить учащихся выражать свою точку зрения и обмениваться мнениями.

3. Вызвать у учащихся интерес к изучению английского языка, расширить кругозор учащихся.

Оборудование:

Столы, расставленные полукругом, географическая карта, творческие работы, ТСО.

Оформление доски: В центре название темы ; справа-творческие работы учащихся; слева-цели: to develop debating skills

to practise giving arguments

to improve skills in speaking

План урока:

1. Вступительное слово учителя о теме, целях и задачах урока.

2. Дискуссия:

1. Ведущие дискуссии представляют участников.

2. Каждый из гостей-участников представляет себя и отвечает на вопрос Какую роль играет ин.язык в его жизни (высказывают своѐ мнение о важности изучения английского языка).

3. Задание (тест/викторина) для участников

4. Диалог на немецком м/у г-ой Мюллер и ученицей (Лера, ИВ)

Ролевая игра "Why learn English?"

Teacher: Good morning, dear guests and students! I hope you are fine today

and we can start our "Round table". Dear friends, you have just seen beautiful sights of the country, the language of which came now here to conquer the world (изречения записаны на плакате). So the theme of our role play is - why learn English? Our students will try to:

1) develop debating skills

2) practise giving arguments

3) improve skills in speaking

Hostess:Let me introduce the chairmen of our "Round table", they are : Julia, Kate and Polina. They will be responsible for our discussion. And I'll join our audience.

Hostess:Good morning ladies and gentlemen. Could I have your attention, please? Let me open our discussion "Why learn English?". Today we'll not only speak English, we'll speak about English.

Hostess:Nowadays, the English language is the most widespread in the world. About 400 million people speak English as a mother tongue. The English language has become a world language in politics, science, trade and cultural relations. It is the language of computer technology.

Hostess:Does anybody of you know how many countries in the world have English as an official language?? Try to suppose any number! 60/70 or may be more than 100?? The answer is - 58. It is absolutely necessary for a good specialist in any country to be able at least to read English. If you know English, you can talk to people of any nationality, and can get necessary information anywhere in the world. Besides, the English language is the language of the great literature. William Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Oscar Wilde and George Bernard Show, they all wrote their books in English.

Hostess:

Well, it's time to introduce our guests who have come from English - speaking countries and would like to tell why English has become so popular in the world. Let's start from the 1-st country the USA and its spokesman - Nick Simons

An American businessman (Kolya): -Hello, I`m Nick Simons. I`m an American businessman. I was born in Philadelphia in a Russian family.

My company is just one part of the whole «Apple» company. I create new ideas about new functions and models for iPhones, iPads, MacBooks and iMacs. I really enjoy my work . I`m a very respectable person.

Well, I'm proud of my nationality and I can't imagine my career without English. It helps me to find the way to a successful life. I was born in Philadelphia, but I spent my childhood in a Russian town Semenov. It`s a very good town. Some of my best friends still live in this town. When I grew up I wanted to return to my home country, and start my career as an American businessman. My family stayed in Russia, but I visit them very often. Before my returning to America I had been learning English for 6 years. I have an advanced level of English now. I haven't forgotten my English`s teachers. I read magazines about modern technologies and learned a lot about them. And once I went to the main office of «Apple» company and I was hired. It was a lucky day for me and I realized that my successful life had started.

Hostess:

Thank you, Mr. Simons. I want to continue our discussion and give the floor to our next guest . His name is Daniel Richard and he is an interpreter from Great Britain. What role does English play in your life, Daniel Richard?

An interpreter (Daniil): - Good morning everybody. My name is Daniel Richard. I was born in Russia, but when I was 8 my parents and I went to England. I had a lot of home teachers before I could enter the typical English school. I really enjoy learning English!

Hostess:When I was 18, I could speak English as well as my own language. I've made lots of friends in England but I will never forget my Russian friends.Now I work as an interpreter in an international company. I often visit Russia when I am on business trip.

Thank you Mr. Richard. Your information is very useful. The next turn is going to a young man, Rafael by name. Tell a few words about yourself, please

An exchange-student (Anton) : Hello! My name is Rafael and I come from Spain.I am 19 English is not my native language, but I lived in London for some time as an exchange student and I learned it there. I don't have special interests, exept sport. I am engaged in athletics.
English has influenced my life. I could learn English at London school and in a family where I lived. Also, I have a lot of English-speaking friends, whom I often talk to and it helps me to practice my English. In the future I would like to travel around the world. May be, one day I will return to London because I'm in love with its language!

Well, learning English is number one in my everyday life, though it is not easy. It takes a lot of time and effort. I'd like to communicate with people from different countries

Hostess:

That's good, thank you so much. I see that you are a very communicative person and English helps you to make more friends?!

An exchange-student: You are right!

Hostess:

And we keep on going. There is one person here who is not a foreigner, you know him pretty well.. Max Yurkov, your classmate! Max has his own idea why English is so popular.

Hostess:A Russian student, Max: -Hello, my name is Max! I was born in Russia, Semyonov. I'm 14 years. I've been studying the English lg. for 7 years. My 1-st English teacher was Elena Vladimirovna. At this moment I have another English teacher. I'm really interested in learning this foreign lg. and the English culture. I think, I 've made some progress for this period of time. I'm not going to stop and will continue improving my speaking skills. Moreover, when I grow up, I may travel abroad and I want to be able to talk to and understand foreigners. Well, English opens doors to a new life, I think.

Max, not bad)! Does anybody want to ask Maxim a question?

A student from the audience: Hello, my name is Dima My question is - what is the most effective way to learn English, what can you advise?

A Russian student, Max: - Oh, it's a very interesting question, by the way. There is a lot of advice: you may read English books in the original, write down new words and learn them by heart and other advice… But the most important advice is to study English regularly and not to miss English lessons.

Hostess:

We've got one more guest who speaks not only English but German as well. Halo, wie geht es dir?

Hostess:

Thanks everybody for your presentations. We all see that you are pretty good at English speaking skills. We have prepared for you an assignment to check your English knowledge on some facts about this country! Now, please, get ready to answer the quiz.
