English is the language of international communication

Every year our guests from Serbia visit us at our school. And of course we are all glad to see them. Today we will speak about necessity of studying foreign languages. Studying foreign languages is not an easy thing. But it is especially important nowadays. Some people learn them because they need them in their work, others travel abroad, for the third studying foreign languages is hobby.

Everyone who knows foreign languages can speak to people from other countries without difficulties, read foreign authors in original, which makes your outlook wider.

The great German poet Gothe once said: "He who knows no foreign languages doesn't know his own one". Tell me please how do you understand his words? Why do we learn English? Nowadays people try to study this language because English is the languages of international communication. The world of science, computer technologies and so on speak English. But what about other languages? Do you study other languages?

So let's discuss today is it important to study foreign languages? But first look at the statistic:

So we can see that English is the most widespread language.

Let's try to find out the reasons which tell us about the necessity of studying the English language. we' ll divide into 2 groups. One group will find reasons which tell us that we must learn English and the other one will find reasons which tell us that we can live without English.

I suggest you some pictures for discussions. Every picture contains a problem. You will suggest how you can solve all these problems.

Now let's make conclusions. We have found lots of reasons for studying foreign languages. And everybody agree that English is the language of international communication.
