Aims:
To practice scanning and intensive reading techniques to enable the students to speak about Easter.
Objectives:
By the end of the lesson the students:
-will have read the text for the gist and it detail;
-will be able to speak about Easter;
-will be able to speak about the way they celebrate this holiday.
Equipment:
A picture or some pictures, connected with Easter, a computer disk with the Easter song (from happy house 2), task sheets, posters with tasks and felt-tip-pens.

Methods or steps:
Class organization. (usual greetings and phrases)
Introducing the topic:
Teacher:
-Please, look at the picture and say what holiday it is connected with.
(The students are shown a picture , connected with Easter, and they are to guess the name of the holiday. If the can`t do it in English because the don`t know this word, it`s not a problem and the teacher can prompt the English equivalent after they have guessed it in Russian. Of course, the word "Easter" should be written either on the blackboard or on a sheet of paper.)
Teacher: - Now, please, answer the questions (task 1)
-Do you celebrate Easter?
-Do you like this holiday?
- When do people celebrate Easter?
- Is it a religious holiday?

-Look at the words on the blackboard and underline the things which you think refer to Easter.
(On the blackboard there are the following words: coloured eggs, a Fur Tree, chocolate, rabbits, boxes of sweets, spring, national flag, Easter cakes, a snowman, church, tennis, New Year. The teacher can add some other words and the students are to come up to the blackboard and the underline the necessary words so that everybody could see the results of the work).
Teacher:- Read and translate the following sentence to make it easier for you to understand it in the text.

Easter
Easter is a Christian holiday. It is celebrated in April. Easter is a happy holiday. It is devoted to Jesus Christ and his returning to life . People are so glad about it that they give each other different presets. In England children especially like to get chocolate eggs or rabbits. Russian children also get many sweet and tasty things on this day. In the morning people go to church. It is a family holiday, so after the church they visit their relatives or get together on one house and have a nice dinner.
