Тема урока: Living Darfur

Цель урока: развивать устную речь учащихся в рамках проектной деятельности.

Задачи:

а) образовательная

- познакомить учащихся с проблемой гуманитарных кризисов на примере Дарфура и Чада;

б) развивающие

- развивать навыки в области разных видов устной речи (монологической речи, диалогической речи, а также элементам дискуссии);

-развивать навыки аудирования;

-развивать навыки аналитического чтения на примере задания gap filling;

-повторить лексику по теме;

в) воспитывающая

-учить проектной деятельности, работе в группах.

Оборудование: доска, компьютер, мультимедийный проектор, экран, карточки с заданиями для аудирования, доклады учащихся.

Today we have a project lesson and we're going to talk about the humanitarian crisis or catastrophe in Darfur. Look at the screen. Зачитывает план урока.

Well, first of all I'd like to ask you the following question: what do you know about Darfur?

How long have they been living in the conditions of war?

Suggested answers:

Darfur is a region in the southwest of the Sudan.

People are dying because of hunger, violence and a long-lasting conflict.

They are forced to leave the country and move to refugee camps in Chad. etc.

Now to understand the problem better, let's watch a video made by Mattaxix band. The group is called this way because they say it's a kind of "mad mix" of nationalities and music. This is the first video by an international artist ever to be filmed in a war zone. Please open your notebooks and write down the date. While listening, please, write down your assosiations.

Why do you think the song is called Living Darfur?

These people have a primitive lifestyle; however, they try to keep their traditions.

Although they're suffering, they're happy to be alive and enjoy living.

We can see the children's reaction on the attacks by the Janjaweed, the bombings by Sudanese government forces, the shootings, the burning of entire villages, and the flight to Chad.
