A Sly Cat

When a cat is young, he catches many mice. The mice are afraid of him then. But then he grows old and cannot catch mice any more. One day he decides to play a trick on the mice. He lies on his back and does not move at all. A mouse sees him and thinks he is dead. She runs to her friends and says, 'The cat is dead! Let us dance and play!' And all the mice begin to dance and play. They are very happy. They dance round the cat, and the cat does not move. Then one of the mice jumps on the cat's head. 'Look at me! Come nearer, all of you! The bad cat is dead! Let us dance on his head!' But suddenly the cat jumps up and catches the silly mouse. The other mice run away as quickly as they can. Mice! Don't forget! Never believe a cat!

Moscow Zoo.

Tigers, monkeys, snakes and fish in the centre of the Russian capital! These animals all live in the Moscow Zoo, one of the largest in the world. It is the home for over 7000 different kinds of animals. The zoo also has got many exotic animals and birds. Get a map to make sure you see everything.

First, visit the Animal Island. You can see the Amur Tigers, the white snow leopard, the Himalaya bears, the Asian lions and even an Australian emu on the Animal Island. There you can also see colourful fish in large aquariums. Don't miss the Night World exhibition too. This is a great chance for you to see the night animals.

All the young visitors must see the Children's Zoo. Children can see the heroes of fairy-tales: the three piglets, the wolf and seven young goats and many other animals. There are also cafés and picnic areas. Kids can visit playgrounds. You will not forget the day in the Moscow Zoo!

London

London is the capital of Great Britain. London is a very old town. London is two thousand years old. Many years ago London was a small town on the Thames. There were a lot of villages round it. After many years London and three hundred villages grew into a very large city. Some of the names of those villages are the names of the streets in modern London-Kensington, Westminster.

Now London is a beautiful city with large squares and parks. The city of London is the business centre. East End includes the poor districts. West of London is the West End where rich people live.

Trafalgar Square is in the centre of the West End of London. In the centre of Trafalgar Square there is the column made of granite. On the top of the column there is a 17-feet-tall statue of Admiral Nelson who defeated the French at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1809. The total high of the monument is 184 feet (44 meters).

On the North side of Trafalgar Square is the National Gallery. The National Gallery has one of the finest collections of pictures in the world.

Trafalgar Square is one of the busiest place in London, where people go to and from the work, it is hard to cross the street.

Why the Crocodile Does Not Eat Hens

One day a hen comes to the river. She wants to drink water there.

The crocodile sees her and comes up to her. He is very hungry and wants to eat her up.

But she says, 'Don't eat me because you are my, brother.'

The crocodile lets her go: he cannot eat his sister!

The next day, when the hen comes to the river again, the crocodile decides to eat her up.

But again the hen says that he is her brother.

And again the crocodile does not eat her.

Then he thinks: 'How can I be her brother? I live in the water, and she doesn't.'

The crocodile decides to go to his friend, a lizard( ящерица).

'Oh, my friend! A big hen comes to the river every day and when I want to eat her, she says that I am her brother. How can it be?'

'Oh, my silly friend!' the lizard answers. 'Don't you know that the hen, the turtle, the lizard lay eggs as crocodiles do, my dear? So we all are brothers and sisters. Do you understand?'

'Oh, thank you very much,' says the crocodile.

Now you know why crocodiles never eat hens!
