A game for the 7th grade

"A TV-bridge: Russia-America."







There are 2 teams on the TV-bridge: one class presents Russia, another one presents America.

  1. A TV-presenter:

-Please, introduce yourselves.

Team 1: We are from Russia. We live in Moscow, St. Petersburg, etc…We are students of a grammar school and we'd like to know more about your country.

Team 2: We're from America. The full name of our country is the United States of America or the USA. Members of our group came from New York, Washington DS, Los -Angeles, Chicago…

We're students from colleges, universities, etc.

2. A TV-presenter:

-Each team should give 5 most important reasons for tourists to visit their country.(Schoolchildren should name famous places, main sights, the most attractive landscapes, entertainments and other tourist attractions.)

3. A TV-presenter:

- Journalists from both countries have visited America and Russia. Now you can see what typical scenes of life they watched. Please, give your comments on these scenes.(Students dramatize some scenes of typical life in the country they've visited. It should be prepared beforehand. - 5-10 minutes at least for each show.)

Discussion of the life scenes, comments of the opposite team.

4. A TV-presenter:

- And now you can ask students from the opposite team different questions about their country history, life, culture, political system, geography, famous people, important places.(6 questions from each side)

Students ask questions to each other and try to answer. The TV-presenter tries to control the time.

5. A video-quiz: Pupils watch a video-quiz when a boy or a girl tries to guess the name of a famous person, asking only yes/no questions. The TV-presenter stops the tape before the person on the screen gives the correct answer and asks who this famous person is. The team who guessed correctly, wins.



Tapescript 1.(A video to "Happy English-II" by Klementyeva)

A quiz-master:

She was a famous American. Everybody in the world knows her name. Everybody said they loved her, but she died alone.

A girl:

Did she live in the 18th century?

A quiz-master:

- No, she didn't.

A boy:

- Did she write books?

A quiz-master:

- No, she didn't write books.

A girl:

-Did she live in the 20th century?

A quiz-master:

- Yes, she did.

A boy:

-Was she an actress?

A quiz-master:

-yes, she was.

A girl:

-Did she act in the films?

A quiz-master:

-Yes, she acted in films.

A boy:

-You said everybody said they loved her, but she died alone.

A quiz-master:

- That's right. She died in 1962.

A boy:

-Did she have blond hair?

A quiz-master:

-Yes, she did.

A girl:

-Was her name Norma Jean Baker?

A quiz-master:

-Yes, it was.

(Here the TV- presenter should stop the tape!)

A girl:

-And her film name was Marilyn Monroe!

A quiz-master:

-That's correct! Well done!



Tapescript 2.



A quiz-master:

-This is a famous American. Everybody in the world knows his name. He came from a very poor family, but died very rich.

(Then a student from one of the teams answers the questions of the quiz-master from the screen, reading subtitles given on TV).



A boy:

- Did he live in the 20th century?

A student:

-Yes, he did.

A boy:

-Did he work for the government?

A student:

-No, he didn't.

A boy:

- Did he write books?

A student:

- No, he didn't.

A boy:

-Was he an actor?

A student:

-Yes. He was an actor.

A girl:

-Did he act in films?

A student:

-Yes, he acted in films, but he is famous for something else.

A girl:

- Was he born in the North or in the South of the United States?

A student:

-He was born in the South.

A boy:

-Did he sing? Was he a singer?

A student:

- He sang. He was a singer.

A boy:

- Was he born in Tulepo, Mississippi?

A student:

-Yes, he was born in Mississippi on the 8th of January, 1935.

A boy:

-- And he died in Memphis, Tennessee.

A student:

-Yes, in 1977.

(Here you should stop the tape and ask students.)

A girl:

-Was his name Elvis Presley?

A student:

- Yes, his name was Elvis Presley. Well done!

The team which guessed right wins the competition. Children make a conclusion about their impressions and new things they've learned. The students say good-bye to each other and leave the room.
