PROCEDURE

І. Preliminaries of the lesson.

Greeting.

Т: Good morning, everyone. I hope you are fine today. Ps: Good morning, teacher. We are fine, thank you.

Aim.

During our lesson we'll speak about diseases, their treatment and ways to stay healthy.

Checking up the homework.

Warming up.

Listen to the dialogue and tick what Nick does to be healthy. (Slide 1)



AN INTERVIEW FOR SCHOOL «HEALTH AND SPORTS» NEWSPAPER

  • Nick, have you ever been ill?

  • Well, when I was a little boy, I caught colds very often.

  • Really? I don't remember you being ill.

  • I have changed my life with the help of my mother.

  • And what have you changed?

  • First of all I started doing morning exercises and I take a cold shower every morning.

  • Do you keep to a special diet?

  • No, but I try to eat a lot of fruit and vegetables.

  • Do you take vitamins?

  • Well, I'm sure that healthy food, fresh air and a lot of exercises are better than any vitamins.

  • Nick, I know that you are a good sportsman. Do you go in for a special kind of sports?

  • Of course, I don't. I like swimming and sometimes go to the swimming pool with my mother. But what I go in for is football. I think, this game is perfect for the boys and you can play it indoors and outdoors.

  • Do you visit your doctor regularly?

  • You know, I only visit the dentist. Sorry, I must go now, or I may be late for the football club.


II. Main part of the lesson.

There can be no doubt that health is very important for any person. There are many proverbs about health. Please, look at the screen again (Slide 2).

There are some proverbs. Let's read them and try to translate.

Vocabulary practice.

Look at the new vocabulary box, read after me, using, ex.2 p.80. Write them down into your vocabularies. Compose three sentences with them.

Now, let's play "Winner game". Name all parts of the body you remember. Who finishes the list is the winner.

Reading and speaking.

Ex. 3, p. 80. Let's discuss the following points using microphone. Pass it to each other and say if the sentences are true or false.

Relaxation.

I see you are tired. Let's relax.

Stand up, please. Clap your hands when you hear words about good habits.

No waiting, no parking,

Don't smile, stop laughing.

Turn it on, turn it off,

Open your mouth, try to cough.

No smoking, no drinking,

No running, stop thinking.

Work all day, play all night,

Do what I say - that's right.

Turn left, turn right,

Always love, never fight.

Come early, don't be late,

Try to be good, don't hate.

Writing.

Ex. 4, p. 80. Complete the sentences using the words from the slide and write them down into your copybooks. Read and translate your variants. (Slide 3)

Grammar practice.

We are going to speak about healthy lifestyle. But first of all look at the screen (Slide 4).

There is a poem about the healthy life-style, let's read it together.

(Slide 5).

Do you remember these modal verbs? What do they mean?

Let's divide into two groups. The first group will tell us what we should do to be healthy, and the second group will say what we shouldn't do.

Speaking.

Game «The Healthy Life of My Classmates».

The teacher divides the class into groups of four students. Each student chooses a card and asks the members of the group. At the end groups systematize information and one representative from each of them reports on the survey. (Slide 6)












ІІІ. Summary

Homework.

Make up a telephone conversation using the words: doctor, ill, disease, should, shouldn't, lifestyle, vitamins. You can either record it using website vocaroo.com or your mobile phone.

Summarizing.

Today we spoke about illnesses, treatment and healthy lifestyle. What would you like to change in your life to live a healthy life? Is it possible to do? What should you do for this?

You are well done! Nevertheless, … should work harder! Your marks are…

We continue speaking about our health. Today we are going to discuss some aspect of healthy life and practice some grammar.

Warming up

Group up this word combinations into two columns: useful and harmful habits.

II. Main part of the lesson.

Writing.

Ex. 5, p.81. Group words into 4 columns: a part of the body, health service, a symptom, an illness. Write them down into your copybooks.

Relaxation.

I propose you to play "Champion" game between three groups. You have to make up sentences using the words of ex.5. The last team wins the game.

Listening and speaking.

Now I propose you to listen to a short dialogue and to reproduce it in pares. (Slide 2)



Writing.

Ex.7, p.81. Using the words of this exercise.try to write a short paragraph on the sheets of paper. I'll check them up and the next lesson you'll get your marks.

Speaking practice.

Ex.8, p.81. Work in pares. Take turns to ask and answer the questions.

Look at the screen and match the problems with their solution. (Slide 3)

III. Summary

Homework.

Ex.9, p.81. Write a letter to your pen friend about medical service in Ukraine.

Today we spoke about a healthy way of living and visits to a doctor. Do your relatives
