How are you feeling today?
Has anything wonderful happened with you these days?
Have you seen any wonders recently?
We are going to continue our series of lessons about the wonders of the world. We 'll revise seven ancient and new wonders, watch a video about one of the wonders of Ossetia and by the end of the lesson you'll have been able to speak about it.
We'll also consolidate our grammar acquisitions i.e. adverbial clauses and learn some new details about purpose clauses.
ll Phonetic Drill:
Let's begin with phonetic exercises:
From wonder into wonder existence opens.
Time works wonders.
Be aware of wonder.
When we come across wonders both natural and manmade, they have
the capacity to surprise us. Have a look at the "surprise words",
pronounce them and name the odd word with a different vowel
sound:
stun-puzzle-startle
dumbfound-surprise-astound
stagger-shock-astonish
Though they are synonyms, they have different shades of
meaning.
What does 'stun'(puzzle startle shock) imply?
lll Lexical Drill:
What words do we resort to when we want to express our impression
of wonders?
What images spring to mind when you hear the phrase 'Seven
Wonders of the World'?
Let's match the pictures with the names of the wonders.

V GRAMMAR. ADVERBIAL CLAUSES
Purpose clauses. The most common type of purpose clause is a
"to" infinitive phrase.
Instead of using a "to" infinitive phrase it is possible to use in
order to or so as to.
Another type of purpose clause begins with in order that or so that. These clauses usually have a modal verb. We use in order that or so that when the subject of the subordinate clause is different from the subject of the main clause.
If the doer of the action is one and the same, you use so as to in order to.
