Teacher: Zvyagintseva T.V. Date: 15.04.2008. Group: 7A.

Main aim: to provide opportunities for the general development of speaking skills and fluency practice on the topic and to develop listening skills.

Text book: "Way Ahead 6".

Additional literature: "Ideas and Issues" by O. Johnson and M. Farrel, "Network" by B.Bowler and S. Parminter.

Support material: exercise sheets.

Equipment used: a board, a tape recorder, a TV set.

Video: Cartoon "Ice Age".

1. Greeting (Model: T-CP)

- Hello, everybody! I'm glad to see you! It's very cold outside, isn't it?

In the morning while I was going to school, I was thinking about our lesson.

1. Got very cold and remembered a cartoon called "Ice age". Do you know it? Did you watch it?

Let's watch a little episode from this cartoon and discuss it.

2. Discussion. (Model: T-CL and T-P1-P2-P3, etc.).

What animals have you seen? Where are they going? What has happened? Can you see these animals now? Why? Why did they die out?

Long ago animals became extinct naturally. Do you know animals that have died out in recent times? What did they look live? Where can you see them now? Did they disappear naturally?

In recent times animals have become extinct because of humans.

3. Introducing the topic of the lesson (Model: T-CL, P1-P2-P3 etc.).

- Nowadays there are also animals which are in danger. They are called endangered animals. It means they can become extinct in some years. Endangered animals is the topic of our lesson. What animals are endangered now? Let's discuss why it happened so.

4. Pre-reading task (Model: T-P, P-2, P-3, etc.).

Look at 2 sets of pictures and say which animals these things come from.

5. Listening - reading.

We are going to listen to the text and read it. Look at the pictures and say what the text will be about.

What facts can you find about:

- whales

- dolphins

- elephants

- arctic foxes

- fishing nets

6. Extension.

Pupils give detailed reasons why these animals are endangered (Model: P1-P2-P3, etc.).

7. Yap-filling (Model: pair work).

8. Discussion.

Let's discuss how we can help endangered animals.

9. Discussing quotations (Model: group work).

10. Project work and presentation (Model: group work).

Design a T-skirt with a message to protect animals.

11. Conclusion, giving homework (Model: T-CL).
