Topic: Influence of music. Present Perfect Continuous

Aims: 1. To study new grammar tense (present perfect continuous) with the help of a song;

2. To develop speaking, reading, writing and listening skills;

3. To speak about education and music and about the influence of music to education.

Type of lesson: new material

Form: инновационный урок с применением мультимедийных технологий на основе smart board.

Level: intermediate

Equipment: ppt-presentation, smart-board, song, handouts.

The procedure:

  1. Organization moment. Greeting.

T: Hello dear boys! How are you today? I am glad to see you! Take your seats. Get prepared for the lesson.

T: I know that everyone has got some problems, that don't give you an opportunity to study well. That's why I want you to take these pieces of paper and write your problems on them. Now let's collect them. Look all your problems are in my hands now and what will we do with them. I will throw them into the rubbish bin. And what does it mean? It means that you haven't got any problem now. So let's start our lesson with all attention and strength that we have.

  1. Lead-in.

T: Let's remember what is the title of the unit that we are studying now?

S: Body and mind

T: Yes. During these several lessons we studied with you a lot about human's mind and human's body. Let's revise it: what parts does the human's body consist of? What are the abilities of our mind?

T: Today we are going to speak with you about music and about its influence to education. And also we will try to study a new grammar rule with the help of a song.

  1. Conversation (developing speaking skills):

T: Look at the board. Here you can see questions that you have to discuss in pairs. Then we will try to discuss them together. (slide3)

Where do you find is the best place to study?

What is the best time of day for you to study?

How long can you study before you need a break?

Do you need total silence to concentrate or do you like to listen to music while doing something?

What kind of music?

  1. Draw your emotions:

T: What influence does music have on us? Are we influenced by music? Can it change our mood? Let's check it. I want 2 of you come to the board. Now you are going to listen to the song and try to draw your emotions and then explain them. (slide 4)

T: thus we've understood that song has great influence on us.

  1. Grammar. Listening practice (Song).

T: so let's look at the board and listen to the song. While listening you have to fill the gaps (slide 5)

Whose song is it? (slide 6)

T: look at the constructions in red. What tense is used here? This is Present Perfect Continuous.

Let's read the rule. (handouts) (slide 7)

  1. Grammar practice:

T: ok. Has everyone understood this rule? Let's check. Let's do the exercise. (handouts) (slide 8)

  1. Relaxation:

T: Now let's once more listen to this song. But you have to be very attentive because you have to clap your hands when you hear Present Perfect Continuous construction.

  1. Vocabulary:

T: in lyrics of this song you can see and hear some phrases the meaning of which you don't know. They are: sleep like a log

  1. Writing practice:

T: in your copybooks write three sentences using new vocabulary and new grammar construction.

  1. Grammar:

T: before this lesson the last grammar tense that we studied was Present Perfect Simple. Let's revise this tense and find out the difference in use between Present Perfect Simple and Present Perfect Continuous (slide 9)

  1. Grammar practice and reading:

T: look at the board and do the exercise. In this exercise you have to fill the gaps and then we will read and check it. (slide 10)

  1. Homework: Students book(Solutions) p 37 to do all exercises; for strong students Grammar Builder 4.2 p.113

  2. Conclusion:

T: Well, students what did we do at today's lesson? Did you like it? What did you like best of all? All right! You all work hard today and get the following marks.
