Тема: «Books in our life».

Цель: закрепление лексики по теме, развитие навыков говорения (в монологической и диалогической формах).

Задачи: развитие навыков аудирования, развитие умения вести беседу по заданной ситуации.

Оснащение: компьютер, экран, презентация, УМК по Кауфман «Happy English.ru» 8 класс, тематические карточки.

Teacher: Good afternoon. Take your seats. The theme of our lesson is "Books in our life". We will talk about different genres of books, about your favourite writers and books.


Teacher: let's begin our lesson. I want you to ask some questions. Please use the following expressions:

I like …

I'm keen on …

I'm interested in …

I never waste my time on…

I'm fond of …

I can't stand …


- P.1 are you interested in comics?

- P.2 do you like newspapers?

- P.3 are you keen in magazines?

- P. 4. do you think that to buy a newspaper it's a waste of your time?

1. Teacher: I have a riddle for you. Listen and try to guess what it is.

- I'm neither a rhyme nor a song

I can be short or very long

I can be funny or quite sad

But to read me you'll be glad.

What is it?

2. Teacher: Children do you know proverbs about books?

Look at the blackboard. There we have some. Let's read and translate them.

1. Choose an author as you choose a friend.

2. Don't judge a book by its cover.

3. Tell me what you read and I will tell you what you are.

4. Treat books with care as good friends.

5. All books are divisible into two classes: the books of the hour, the books of all time.

Write them down in your copybooks.


3. Teacher: And now let's answer my questions. But first look at the blackboard, please. Here you see words and phrases. Using them answer my questions.

4. Teacher: Now let's have a guessing game. I will tell you about different genres of book.

Listen and try to guess what genre it is. I'll give you a card where you should write your answers and then we will check.

Teacher:

  1. Criminals. Robbers, killers. There is always a clever detective who catches them in the end.

  2. The author describes somebody's life or writes about himself.

  3. Princess and princesses, very bad witches and magic animals that help good people. The plot is usually very simple. Good people are rewarded. Bad people are punished.

  4. Vampires, witches, ghosts and scary supernatural events.

  5. Love and hate. The characters go through a lot of difficulties to come together.

5. Teacher: Now I will divide you into three groups. Each group is a company which is working in the famous Publishing house. You should choose one book which should be published next month. You need to explain why you choose this book. One of you will represent your choice. You may use exercise 5 on the page 140.

Don't forget to say about:

  • the writer, the title of the book

  • the content of the book in brief

  • why the book will be interesting for readers

You have 2-3 minutes for your speech.

6. Teacher: Now, let's work in pairs. Your task is to make up the dialogues. The situation is written on the cards.


7. Teacher: What do you think - IS READING IMPORTANT?

Give your opinion using these expressions:

It develops your imagination.
