Objectives: to expand student's knowledge of London's sights, to develop students' interest in life of English people, to develop comprehension, speaking and reading skills.

Equipment :video film, photographs, sides, sights of London, a tourist's guides and leaflets, souvenirs, paper, felt - tip pens.

ХОД УРОКА

1.ВВЕДЕНИЕ

T. Dear friends, today we are going to speak about places of interest in London. We got an invitation letter from one of London schools. The head teacher Mr. Brown wants to invite a group of students to London. And today we must decide who knows London's sights very well.

2.ОСНОВНАЯ ЧАСТЬ УРОКА

Конкурс - разминка «Знаете ли вы?»

На столе разложены карточки с английскими буквами. Класс делится на три команды. Представители от каждой команды берут со стола по одной букве.

Задание: назвать как можно больше имён, начинающихся с этой буквы.

1. London is the biggest city in Britain. It is the centre of business and tourism. There are many theatres, cinemas, picture galleries and museums. London is called the city of parks, the largest one is Hide Park.

2. London is a very old and beautiful city. There are many interesting places to visit. One of them is the Tower of London. In the past the Tower was a fortress, a castle, a prison, a zoo and now it is the oldest museum which is worth visiting.

3. There is Trafalgar Square in London, the geographical centre of the city. It is the most famous and beautiful place in London. It is named after the battle of Trafalgar. At that battle Admiral Nelson beat Napoleon. In the middle of the square is Nelson's Column. Around the column are four bronze lions.

4. It is Victoria Station, a big, old train and underground station in London. It is named after Victoria, a famous English queen.

5. It is Big Ben, a famous clock tower in London.

6. It is Buckingham Palace, the London home of the Queen.
