6 "A" was an experimental group where we tried to use ICT on every lesson. 6 "B" was a control group where we taught pupils using traditional aids of teaching.

  • The theme of our first lesson was "Summer holidays". In the experimental group we introduced the lesson with the help of interesting presentation. There were some enjoyable slides with the help of it children guessed the theme themselves. We gave them a lot of word cards and they had to choose the words appropriate to the theme. They did it also with interest and all students were involved into the activity. Then we switched on the tape recorder where they were listening to the British boy's summer holidays. We did it twice and students tried to understand the text. We think that to listen to the speech of foreigner is the best way to improve the comprehension skills of our pupils. Then we introduced new words using picture slides of them. We saw that they understood the meaning of all words. The next task was to answer the questions and students also managed the task. To activizate the theme we divided them into three groups. Their task was to imagine the holidays in different places in Astana, in London and in Moscow. They had to write about the people they met, the places they visited and the food they ate. We didn't give them any additional information. We only allowed them to use Internet and gave them notebooks. The task was not so difficult because they exactly knew what to do and could use the opportunity of ICT. They made interesting and colorful posters and tried to describe them. At that task we saw that pupils understood the differences between three nations and their interests to learn more was seen clearly. To consolidate the theme students had to do the tasks given in the cards:

  • Guess the word according to its definition;

  • Divide the words into groups;

  • Complete the sentences using given words.

The answers of the tasks we showed on the screen and pupils could be able to check and correct their answers. It didn't take much time as usually. The lesson was interesting and useful for students.

  • In the second class we did it in the following way:

We introduced the theme and made brain-storming. Asked some questions and begun to read the text about summer holidays of a foreigner. They read the text and found new words in it. They were explained their meaning as usually with the help of definition.
