  • Shall we start now? музыка звучит( Чайковский .Времена года .Весна)

Слайд 1: How do you like the weather today? The air is fresh and crisp, the sky is blue, it's sunny. And what season is it? Yes, it's spring. Spring is in the air! People call it the season of hope and happiness. And we all like it because in spring we celebrate some very important holidays. The most important of them is Easter. What do you know about it? What are the traditions of celebrating it in Russia and in GB? What are the symbols of Easter? What is Easter food like? We're going to answer all these questions and even more.

Слайд2: To begin with let's remember some useful words and expressions to speak about the holiday.

  • Celebrate Easter Sunday- праздновать Пасху

  • The Resurrection of Jesus Christ- Воскресение Христово

  • Lent-пост

  • Good Friday - Страстная пятница

Христос воскресе!- Воистину воскресе!

Слайд 3: ( рассказ учителя о празднике)

What is Easter?

Easter is the most important Christian festival. Christians are followers of Jesus Christ who lived about 2000 years ago in a country called Palestine.

They believe that Jesus was the son of God. At Easter time Christians remember the last week of Jesus' life and celebrate his Resurrection

Слайд4 : When is Easter?

In fact not only is Easter a movable feast but it happens on different dates depending on where in the world you live. The reason for this is that in western churches such as in the UK, America and Australia, we use the Gregorian calendar rather than the Julian calendar used in eastern churches.

T.: And what are Easter symbols? What do people usually eat on Easter Sunday ? Don't you know? Then here is a very informative film about Easter traditions in GB. ( Просмотр видеоролика.)

Слайд 5 : You liked the film , didn't you ? Shall we discuss it a bit?

Слайды 6-9 Обсуждение фильма:

1 Easter traditions

2. Easter symbols

  1. Easter eggs

For Christians the egg is a symbol of Jesus' resurrection, as when they are cracked open they stand for the empty tomb. Nobody actually knows when eggs were first used as symbols at festival times but it was long before Jesus' time. Eggs were always thought to be special because although they do not seem alive, they have life within them especially at springtime when chicks hatch out( вылупляются).

  1. Easter Bunnies

Rabbits have been associated with springtime since ancient times. It is believed that the Anglo-Saxon Goddess of Spring, Eostre had a hare as her companion. The hare symbolises fertility and rebirth. Later Christians changed the symbol of the hare to the Easter bunny.

  1. Egg hunt

The tradition is that the Easter bunny leaves Easter eggs on Easter Sunday. Parents hide eggs in the garden and the children go on an egg hunt to find them.

Слайд 10 " Hot cross buns"-песня исполняется после чтения и перевода слов.

Hot cross buns

One a penny, two a penny

Hot cross buns.

Give them to your daughters,

Give them to your sons

One a penny

Two a penny

T: And now it's time to speak about Russian traditions. What's the difference between Russian and British Easter traditions? Can you name them?

  • Pupils: We go to church on Saturday night

  • We decorate, colour Easter eggs red and cook kuliches, paskhas

  • We have special meals together

  • We send Easter cards and give presents

  • We visit relatives

  • We can eat all the things we gave up for Lent ( пост) again

Слайд 12 обобщение

T: Well, it's time to sum up what we have learned about the holiday of Easter. You start your sentences with " I have learned that…."

P1: I have learned that Easter is the greatest religious holiday.

P2: I have learned that people celebrate it in spring. ( и т.д.)

Слайд 13 : And let's finish our lesson with a beautiful poem about Easter

  • Christ the Lord is risen today!

  • Angels rolled the stone away

  • From the tomb wherein He lay!

  • Little children, come and sing,

  • "Glory, glory to the King,

  • Christ the Lord of everything!"

Итоги урока.

T: Happy Easter to you all! And now I'd like to give you some holiday cards to remember our lesson. They will tell you more than words. And thank you very much for the lesson. I was pleased to meet you. Good- bye!
