Procedure of lesson

  1. Organization moment

  2. Warm-up

«Except for a living man there is nothing more wonderful than a book! They teach us and open their hearts to us as brothers»

wrote Charles Kingsley, an English writer of the 19th century.

"A Book".

(by Adelaide Love)

A book I think, is very like

A little golden door,

That takes me into places

Where I've never been before.

It leads me into fairyland

Or countries strange and far.

And best of all, the golden door

Always stands ajar.

(L. Privalova).

The theme of our lesson today is

"The wonderful world of books"

3. Speaking

As you have guessed, today we shall speak about our friends - books.

As an old saying goes, man cannot live on bread alone. Books are the source of knowledge and the means of self - perfection. Sometimes it is difficult to solve some problems in life. I think that books can help us. Books must be our friends during all our life.

  1. Many people collect books. It is their hobby and I am sure it's easy to explain why. We learn when we read books.

Teacher:

  • Whose hobby is reading?

  • Who else likes to read?

A book is our best friend. Every man always needs a true friend and a good teacher. Of course such friend and such teacher for him is a book.

Teacher:

- Who knows a poem devoted to a book?

MY BOOK.

(by Elsie Parrish)

I will not soil this little book,

Not drop it to the floor.

I will not turn its corners down

To spoil it more and more.

My book's a little friend to me,

And so a friend to it I'll be.

Book Manners.

(by Gelett Burgess)

If your draw on your books.

How disgustful it looks!

Here a cat, and there a ball.

One more picture over all!

Take a paper or a slate,

It you want to decorate.

Better than toys.

Why doesn't Bobby come and play?

He sits upon his chair all day,

At games and toys he doesn't look,

But turns the pages of a book.

Father is going to read a book!

Father is going to read a book,

So he won't play with me.

Mother is going to read a book,

So she won't play with me.

Granny is busy with her cook-book,

So she won't play with me.

David is busy with his textbook,

So he won't play with me.

Dear me! Dear me!

No one is going to play with me.
