Целью урока - размышления является воспитание толерантного отношения к окружающим, гуманного отношения к людям, понимание проблем людей с ограниченными возможностями, воспитание чувства сострадания.

Задачи:

1Формирование личностных отношений подростков, их способности к самоанализу и самооценке и эмоционально-ценностного отношения к миру.

2.Развитие и совершенствование коммуникативной компетенции на английском языке, а также развитие учебно-познавательной и компенсаторной компетенций.

About our society, people….

Yes, you are absolutely right.

1. Society. Can you tell me what society is?

The society consists of people.

They make laws, explore space, build towns and cities, and develop industry.

Other words do they lead an active way of life?

But there is another group of people who would like to take part in all spheres of our society but they can't. I mean the disabled.

Do you know who are the disabled?

The disabled are those who are physically or mentally ill.

Yes, you are quite right.

A disabled person is a person who has a health disorder with a persistent disorder of body functions due to illness, the effects of injuries

A disability may occur during a person's lifetime or may be present from his birth.

Can we call these people handicap?

Handicap

Some people with disabilities do not like the term "handicap" because of a belief that it originally meant someone who could not work and went begging with their cap in hand.

Read information you have and try to translate it.

It was originated in a lottery game known as Hand in Cap in the 1600s which involved players placing money in a cap.

Later it moved into horse racing where it meant bringing the strongest competitors back to the field by giving them extra weight to carry.

In golf, it became the number of strokes a player could subtract from his score to give him a chance against better players, so a bigger handicap is actually an advantage in golf.

Only in 1915 it became a term to describe the disabled, when it was used to describe crippled children.

So we are all different, but we have equal rights, don't we? What rights do we have?

We have the right to education We have the right to life

We have the right to meet other people We have the right to non-discrimination

We have the right to be protected People have the right to take full and active part in everyday life

We have the right to health and health care

Thank you. And what about the disabled?

Have you ever thought about their life?

Can you imagine what difficulties they face to?

There are many difficulties in the life of disabled people.

-They can't go outside due to the fact that there is no elevator.

-It is very difficult to descend or climb stairs without assistance.

-They can not cross the street. -They can't travel.

-They have difficulties with communication. - They feel lonely.

-They have difficulties at home. -They can't visit theaters and cinemas, go to discos and concerts.

Yes, you are absolutely right. And I hope you can clearly imagine all hardship and deprivation of such people. What do you feel towards them?

- We feel sorry for them and we see how helpless they are.

As I have already said most of people of our society are healthy people. They work and live full life and what about the disabled? Why do they live?

-They live because they are people.

-They live because their parents love them

-They live because they are not guilty for the fact that they are ill.

So, what conclusion can we come to?

-If they are people -they should be needed by society and they should be active members of it.

And who can help them to become full-fledged human beings?

-Society should change its attitude to the disabled.-the government must adopt laws which should work.

-their families should love them.

I want to continue our lesson with reading the text. It's a small parable written by a famous American writer William Saroyan. Just some words about him

William Saroyan; 31 August 1908 - 18 May 1981 was an Armenian-American dramatist and auther. Tennessee Williams considered him the best playwright of the world.

Ernest Hemingway thought him chief rival. The Armenians, however, say that W.S. is their national property.

Saroyan published essays and memoirs, in which he depicted the people he had met traveling in the Soviet Union and Europe, such as the playwright George Bernard Show, the Finnish composer Jean Sibelious and Charlie Chaplin. In 1952, Saroyan published The Bicycle Rider in Beverly Hills, the first of several volumes of memoirs.

So the text is headlined "What happens if you try to satisfy some people".

Let's divided into 3 groups and answer the questions given under the story.

Was there a blind or a deaf man in the household?

What did the members of the household give the blind man?

Was he satisfied and pleased with their kindness or did he wail all day and all night?

Why did he wail all day and all night?

Did the family treat him cruelly?

What did the family eat and drink and what did they give the blind man?

What did the family do in fury and despair?

What did the blind man do and what did he say before swallowing the first bite?

Why did he say so?

What kind of man was he?

Some people say that it doesn't pay to be kind to others. What is your opinion?

Do you consider the case in the story typical or exceptional?

So, can we say that the problem is in the man?

He doesn't want to understand his family and doesn't want to make them to be happy.

What do you think of him?

-Yes, he is selfish, greedy, angry.

People can be divided into some types.

What type can the blind man belong to?

I have active-positive type

Active-positive type

People with disabilities of this type tend to seek to recover from negative life situations. They have a good inner spirit, a fairly high self-esteem, optimism, contagious energy and independence of thought and behavior.

1.Инвалиды этого типа стремятся к поиску самостоятельного выхода из негативных жизненных ситуаций. У них хороший внутренний настрой, достаточно высокая самооценка, оптимизм, заражающий других, энергичность и самостоятельность мыслей и поступков.

Passive -positive

People with disabilities of this type have a quite low self-esteem. They are satisfied with their life, they are happy to have loving households who take care of them and satisfy their desire.

Therefore they are aimed to be positive and peaceful, but they don't seek for changing and

its own implementation in art or sport.

2. Пассивно-позитивный тип. У людей этого типа достаточно низкая самооценка. Их вполне устраивает то положение вещей, которое есть в их жизни на сегодня, например, постоянная опека близких, удовлетворение всех их желаний любящими родственниками. Поэтому они в целом настроены позитивно и умиротворенно, но совершенно не стремятся к переменам и собственной реализации в творчестве, спорте и т.д.
Passive-negative

People of this type are filled with discontent because of their life and they don't want to improve it .They have low self-esteem, cautious attitude towards others and constantly are waiting for new troubles.

3. Пассивно-негативный тип. У людей этого типа присутствует неудовлетворенность собственным положением и вместе с тем отсутствует желание попытаться самостоятельно улучшить его. При этом у таких людей достаточно низкая самооценка, настороженное отношение к окружающим, постоянное ожидание новых неприятностей.
Active-negative

Psychological discomfort and dissatisfaction with their lives are combined with a belief in the possibility of changing their lives for the better. Unfortunately not by their own efforts but with the help of someone else, for example, the state or parents.

4. Активно-негативный тип. Психологический дискомфорт и неудовлетворенность своей жизнью сочетаются с верой в возможность изменения их жизни к лучшему. Но не с помощью собственных усилий, а с помощью кого-то другого, например, государства или родителей.

Among people active-positive type, you can remember the prominent Russians. For example, a legendary pilot Alexei Maresyev - the hero of the Great Patriotic War. His plane was shot down and wounded airman 18 days (in winter!) crawled to people. His frostbitten feet were amputated, but he was not discouraged and soon was able to not only walk but to dance and even fly with prosthesis. A book was written by Boris Polevoi "The Story of a Real Man" and a film was staged.

In spite of the problems people face to the disabled want to live and participate in different events of our social life. Fortunately, thanks to people with great will and power our country has champions.

What are the Paralimpics?

The Paralympic Games are a for athletes with physical and sensorial disabilities. This includes athletes with mobility disabilities, amputations, blindness, and cerebral palsy. The Paralympic Games are held every four years, following the Olympic Games, and are governed by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). The Paralympic Games are sometimes confused with the Special Olympics World Games, which are only for people with intellectual disabilities, but Special Olympics participants may still take part in the Paralympic games.

On the day of the opening of the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, Dr. Ludwig Guttmann of Stoke Mandeville Hospital organised a sports competition for British World War Two veteran patients with spinal cord injuries. The games were held again at the same location in 1952, and veterans took part alongside the British, making it the first international competition of its kind. These have been described as the precursors of the Paralympic Games. The Paralympics were subsequently officialised as a quadrennial event tied to the Olympic Games, and the first official Paralympic Games, no longer open solely to war veterans,

What great will these people have! We, healthy people, sometimes don't have patience and willingness to achieve good results. I think they are the examples of imitation.

Believe in yourself and you win! - with these words Valentine Dikul a doctor - resuscitation, Academician of Medical Sciences begins his work with every seriously ill patient.

This famous doctor was formerly a circus artist: raised a car, wore alive horse on stage. But once during the performance he fell down from a height and injured his spine. It was thought that he could live only a month.

Dikul not only survived, but got to his feet, invented and tested for their own method of rehabilitation, and later opened a clinic. Over the years his clinic, re-learned to walk more than 11 thousand people, wheelchair-bound

Many people with disabilities have contributed to society. They include actors, actresses, celebrities, singers, world leaders, and many other famous people. Do you know any famous disabled people?

Albert Einstein
The Mathematician/Physicist who had a learning disability and did not speak until age 3. He had a very difficult time doing maths in school. It was also very hard for him to express himself through writing.

Alexander Graham Bell
Had a learning disability

Edison had a learning disability. He couldn't read until he was twelve years old and had very difficult time writing even when he was older.

Franklin D. Roosevelt
Roosevelt had Polio, was governor of New York State then elected President of the United States for 4 terms.

George Washington
Had a learning disability. He could barely write and had very poor grammar skills.

Goya
Spanish painter (1746-1828): At age 46, an illness left him deaf. He went on to create the most famous Spanish art of the 19th century.

(Devoted Life to Persons with Disabilities) She was Blind, Deaf, and Mute

Bethany Hamilton - Bethany Meilani Hamilton (born February 8, 1990) is an American surfer. She is known for surviving a shark attack in which she lost her left arm . On October 31, 2003, Hamilton went for a morning surf she was lying sideways on her surfboard with her left arm dangling in the water, when a tiger shark attacked her, ripping her left arm off just below the shoulder. Just eight weeks after the incident, she returned to her board and went surfing again. Hamilton still aspires to become a professional surfer.

In July of 2004 Hamilton won the ESPY Award for Best Comeback Athlete of the Year.

Viewers are captivated by Lisa Fittipaldi's lively, colorful canvases. When they learn that she is blind, they are astounded. Fittipaldi was declared legally blind in 1993, She cannot see color or distance, dimension or print. A blind painter? Until they see her work for themselves, people think it's impossible. Clearly Lisa Fittipaldi is doing something quite extraordinary, seemingly beyond the normal range of human capability. It appears that she is the world's only profoundly blind realist painter. Since 1997, her complex scenes of diverse cultures and everyday life have been exhibited in museums and galleries around the world. So we see that all people over the world want to live and enjoy their life but it's impossible without support and attentive attitude of our society.

Let's find out some facts and think about what should be done for this category of people.

-The first solution, medical and government solutions and support, is fundamental solution in the way of providing real assistance to sick people. The government should establish and abide by strict rules to protect and enhance the rights and opportunities of the disabled people. They should have equal rights to education, employment, and cultural life. The government should invest resources in health care and related services in an attempt to cure disabilities medically and medical service should improve functioning which allowing disabled persons a more "normal" life. Disabled people should have a good service without any bureaucracy, a lot of documents, and money. How can disable men collect tons of signed documents? This should not Be!

-Another solution is construction of infrastructure for disabled people. It is connected with the first solution, because the government must compel to do it for all development companies. Houses must have special equipments and places for disabled people. They should build special sidewalk, installing special lighting, and sound signals everywhere in the cities. Designers of buildings should take into account the elevators, restrooms, and entrances; as result, disabled people can freely move and use that places. This will allow the disabled to live a "free life" and not be captives of their homes. They will be able to walk outside, to the market or in the garden, without any support.

- The last solution is adaptations in the social life. As I said before, man stay alone with the problem which he has, all others just close their eyes, turn away and do not want to help. It's the biggest problem to solve it we have to change attitudes towards people with disabilities. Company should create special workplace for disabled person, non-profit organizations must create programs to advance adaptive sports for regular exercises or create sport teams for Paralympic Games. A man should have hobbies or jobs for goals are necessary for life. The personal computer has become more ubiquitous that should have software to make computers more accessible for people with disabilities; as a result, people will be able to learn, work and communicate.

Inclusive education means that all students in a school, regardless of their strengths or weaknesses in any area, become part of the school community. They are included in the feeling of belonging among other students, teachers, and support staff. The federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and its 1997 amendments make it clear that schools have a duty to educate children with disabilities in general education classrooms. From November 14-21, teachers, officials, parents and disability activists in Moscow and other cities of Russia celebrated their first Inclusive Education Week. For the purpose of this article, inclusive education is the practice of educating students with disabilities in mainstream schools in their neighborhood. Inclusion also implies that, where necessary, education is provided with the use of supplementary aids and services. Inclusive schools aim to accommodate all children, celebrate differences, support learning, and address students' individual needs.

I think when people can realize these solutions, which will open new ways for disabled people, this will be a big help for the sick, lonely people with disabilities. There will come time when the disabled person will be able to say - I live a full life!

Our society will be healthy if we people have good laws, strong roots.
