Test 8

Task 8.2

1. A tradition is a ritual, belief or object passed down within a society, still maintained in the present, with origins in the past.

2. My family takes pleasure in simple things like having a meal together in the evening or discussing current affairs. Nothing peculiar, you see. We enjoy our habit of getting together and celebrating family holidays together.

3. There are a lot of traditions as hospitality, abduction, harvest that my parents and grandparents held for a long time.

4. Every school has its traditions, but they don't differ greatly from school to school. First of all, it's a ceremony of the first and the last bell. After exams parents organize a party for school-leavers with music and competitions. We also have a very nice tradition called "Meeting of graduates" in our school.

5. My favourite traditional event is a well-known Easter tradition. It is the time for giving and receiving presents such as Easter eggs, hot cross buns, fluffy little chicks, baby rabbits, and springtime flowers as the symbol nature's reawakening.

6. I help to keep such tradition as giving presents to each other on Christmas. It's a tradition to give Christmas presents not only to children and members of family but also to the people you work with. Another tradition I support is celebrating Victory Day on the 9th of May.

Task 8.3

I'm going to give a talk about a tradition of hospitality. Because it seems to me more interesting that Russians often visit each other's homes without a special invitation. I don't exactly know how this tradition started but I can only suppose that the roots of this tradition began in ancient times when people walked for a long distance alone and had to stay somewhere. Each family built for such guests a detached house and the owner cared about his safety, constantly trying to have an interesting conversation with him, despite the fact that he's a stranger. As for me, I assume that the tradition of hospitality appeared in the Caucasus first.

The tradition of my choice is observed nowadays but differently. For example, you don't need to wait for a special occasion like a birthday or a holiday to visit a friend or a neighborhood but, unfortunately, nobody will invite an unknown person late evening like in ancient times.

I would like to say that the tradition of hospitality is great that we need to keep for our generations.
