Lesson Plan

William Shakespeare-the greatest English poet and dramatist.


Aims of lesson:

The general aims of the lesson will be:

  • to develop students' reading and speaking skills

  • to introduce the students the life and works of Shakespeare.


The specific aims of the lesson will be:

  • to be able to describe Shakespeare's life

  • to read for specific information

  • to dramatize one of Shakespeare's plays


Teaching techniques:

  • eliciting

  • reading

  • giving definitions

  • individual work

  • group work

Aids/Materials:

  • topic about W. Shakespeare

  • board

  • interactive board


Stages of the lesson:

I. Warm-up: (Slide1-Shakespeare's portrait)

Do you know William Shakespeare?

Where was he born?

Is he an Englishman or an American?

Do you know his famous works?

What is the name of the theatre where Shakespeare worked? etc.

II. Reading about Shakespeare

(Slide 2- Shakespeare's portrait in his childhood), words from the topic are on the interactive board

The students read about W. Shakespeare


Giving definitions:

(Slide3-the house where W. Shakespeare lived, Slide-4 -" The Globe theatre")

CCQ(comprehension check questions):

-Who is William Shakespeare?

-When and where was he born?

-What can you tell us about his parents, family?

-What is his first work?

-What are Shakespeare's most famous plays and tragedies?

III Learning in Action (Group Work) Group Work - Talking on the 'boarder line' ( students divide into two groups and stand on both sides of the' boarder line')

Gr.1 students say to Gr.2 students: I have known about W. Shakespeare ….then Gr.2 students say to Gr.1 students: W. Shakespeare's famous tragedies are….etc.


IV From page to stage activity. (a scene on W. Shakespeare's works: Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet


V Home Task

Free writing (write an essay about W. Shakespeare)
