Theme: Newspapers

Objectives:To develop students' abilities to organize information and construct it into a text (on the basis of an interview and a newspaper report)

To develop students' abilities to revise, redraft and improve their writing

T.Today we are going to speak about newspapers. Do you or your friends, family read newspapers?

P.1: Yes, my mother likes reading newspapers.

My father (grandfather, uncle) likes reading newspapers.

Presentation

Tabloids =small in size (406 mm - 513 mm).The Mirror.

Broadsheets=big in size, double in size of tabloids.The Times.

Circulation = number of readers-The sun.



The British is one of the biggest newspapers - reading nations in the world.

Newspaper is the oldest mass media. The first newspaper was published in China in the VIII century.

Of course, newspapers don't react to events as quickly as TV, but they usually provide us with extra detail, comment and back ground information

In addition to the 12 national daily newspapers there are 9 national papers which are published on Sundays

A newspaper is a paper printed and sold usually daily or weekly with news, advertisement etc.

There are different types of newspapers.

Papers can be divided in:

National Local Daily weekly Sunday quality

Local newspapers give information on different events happening in the local area.

National newspapers are sold all over the country. Most of them express a political opinion.

Daily newspapers are published on every day of the week except Sunday

Sunday newspapers are larger than daily ones and often have 2 or 3 sections.

The newspapers are divided into two main groups:

quality papers

popular papers.

Quality newspapers newspapers (known as «heavies») contain a lot of serious articles, covers national and news about politics, business, science, cultural news.

Popular newspapers (known as «tabloids») carry a lot of big and many photographs, short articles, simple reports on the main news, sensational stories about famous people.

The tabloid press is much more popular than the quality press.

Quality -"Financial Times", " The Times", "The Guardian", " The Daily Telegraph".

Popular-" The Daily Express", "The Daily Mirror", "The Daily Mail", " The Daily Star"," The Sun".
