EASTER TRADITIONS IN GREAT BRITAIN

Parts from the lesson (for beginners)

Teacher: We are going to speak about Easter and Easter traditions in Great Britain. But at first, tell me please some information about this holiday from our textbook. I think this magic chocolate egg will help us.

Pupils: "Magic egg, please roll. We want to listen to an Easter story.''

(The pupils retell the story giving each other an Easter egg).

Teacher: You know that flowers, eggs and rabbits are the Easter symbols in Great Britain. Easter Rabbit has brought us beautiful Easter cards. Look at them! They are very nice. Easter Rabbit tells us an interesting story about his Easter adventures. Listen, please:

1. One sunny Easter morning

With a basket in his hands

The Rabbit walked. And he was going

To visit relatives and friends.

2. Blue and yellow, white and red

Flowers nodded their heads.

The sun was brightly shining.

And our friend was smiling.

3. A garland of violets on Rabbit's head

Carrying a basket of chocolate eggs.

You are handsome, brother dear.

Cross the wood and do not fear!

4. He met the Bear on the way.

Said "Good morning" to the friend,

Didn't notice a stump.

Oh, dear! He fell down!

5. What a pity! We are sorry!

Brother Rabbit, please, don't worry!

Easter eggs and all the toys

Rolling down making noise.

6. Poor Rabbit has got afraid

And hasn't received the first aid.

He has bumped his knee,

Jumped into the bushes under the tree.

7. The children came into the wood.

They have seen the Rabbit's foot

Hidden in the grass

And they began to laugh.

8. "What are you doing here?

Easter is near.

Morning bells are ringing.

All the children are singing."

9. Then they picked the presents up

Ate some red cross buns,

Kissed the rabbit and began to play

Rolling eggs on green grass the whole day.

Teacher: Brother Rabbit wants you to read this funny and interesting story, but, unfortunately, he has lost the words on the way. Please, open your cards and read the text filling in the words into the story.

Pupils read the text and complete the sentences using the words bellow:

EASTER BUNNY

Level - pre-intermediate

(From the pupils' project works)

Thoughts On the Eve Of Easter

Everybody wants to live in peace. But when we read newspapers, we can see a lot of news about wars going on. We shouldn't forget about this while things are not so good for lots of people.

Day after day these people take a risk to lose their lives. Why can't we live peacefully for a long time? This is a difficult question. What should we do to save our world?

We must try to be in good relations with other people and in the meantime we should remember about the God's power. The core of our life is in Love to God. We should remember that Christ was suffering for our sins and he died for us on the cross. Our faith supports us and we must believe that only God will save our world. We should do our first steps to him. Being with God we shall always feel the spirit of love and friendship.

The Remembrance of Christ resurrection is in our hearts. Easter is a symbol of a new life. On this day we are ready to see the vital beauty of our world. On this day many people go to church to sanctify their food and to put candles for the future life.

People celebrate this festival for three days. They often sing songs, which symbolize the birth of a new life and coming of spring.

We should support each other. The mutual understanding will make all our world safe!

LILY AND EASTER BUNNY

This story happens on the day before Easter. Lily lives in England, in a little town near the ocean. She has a mother and a sister.

Once late at night when all the little children go to bed, Lily helps her mother to prepare for the holiday.

"It's time to go to bed," Lily's mother says.

"But I am not sleepy!" says the stubborn girl.

I want to tell you an interesting story. I heard it when I was a little girl like you.

When rabbits sleep they put their tails upon their noses. But at Easter night they don't sleep. They go around the Earth and put kinder-surprises in the houses where little children live. This happens only before Easter Sunday."

"Dear mother I want to see this rabbit myself ! How long should we wait for him?"

"Harry up, we have no time to wait for you any longer!" says Lily's sister. "He always enters the room on tiptoe. If we don't sleep all night, Bunny will be ill and he won't be able to bring a new bonnet with spring flowers for me."

"Do you really want it?" asks Lily's mother.

"No I love my sister very much", Lily answers.

All night Lily wants to open her eyes and see if there is a little grey rabbit, but she doesn't. Early in the morning her sister drops into her room. The new fine bonnet is on her head. Near Lily's bed there are yellow flowers and a coloured kinder-surprise. She has never dreamt of such a wonderful thing!

"Where is Bunny?" Lily asks.

"He appeared for a moment and disappeared again," her mother smiles.

EASTER EGGS

This story is about Nastya, a Russian girl .

One day she went to England to see her cousin Ann, who lived there. It was some days before Easter. Ann told her about this holiday very often. The tradition was that rabbit Bunny came to the houses of the little children and left kinder-surprises for them.

Nastya was very happy to hear it because she liked chocolates very much .She began to look forward to this holiday. When the Eve of Easter came Nastya was so tired of waiting for the rabbit that she slept.

Next morning when the girl woke up she saw a kinder-surprise in her basket. First Nastya was very happy but then she thought: "Where is this kinder-surprise from? Who gave it to me? Everybody said: "Rabbit Bunny did this."

In the afternoon Nastya and Ann went for a walk. They were near the poultry-farm and Nastya saw that hens hatched eggs too. Then she thought:"Was it a rabbit or a hen who gave kinder-surprises to children?"
