Holidays in Russia

There are many holidays in our country. They are: New Year's Day, Christmas, Women's Day, Victory Day, May Day and others.

I like New Year's Day. It is my favorite holiday. The first of January is a winter holiday. It is the first day of the New Year. I don't go to school and my parents don't work.

The weather is usually fine and there is a lot of snow everywhere.

I like the holiday very much because my parents give me presents. They put them under the New Year's tree. At 12 o'clock we are sitting at the table, we wish each other many happy returns of this day.

London

London is the capital of Great Britain. It is a very old city. It is two thousand years old. It is one of the most famous and interesting cities in Europe. There are lots of places to visit in London: museums, art galleries, theatres. There are also lots of cinemas, stadiums and parks in London.

London is the capital of the UK. It's a mixture of old and new buildings. There is a lot to see and learn there.

Tourists in London visit Westminster Abbey and see Big Ben. Westminster Abbey is a symbol of England. The coronation of British Kings and Queens takes place in Westminster Abbey.

Not far from Westminster Abbey there is the Houses of Parliament. The Houses of Parliament stand beside the river Thames. You can see the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben from Westminster Bridge.

In London you also can visit the Tower of London. It is very old. It has a long and cruel history.

My best friend

I have got a friend. His name is Kolya. He is 11. Kolya is tall \short. He is thin. His face is round, his eyes are blue. His hair is short and fair.

My friend is in the sixth form. He studies well and likes to study at school. He is a good pupil, sociable and responsible. Kolya is not only a good pupil, he is a clever and kind friend too. He often helps me to do my homework.

I like to spend free time with my friend. We go for a walk, play games, and discuss films together.

Kolya is fond of playing chess. He is a good player. He teaches me to play chess too.

I like my friend very much. I think Kolya is a real friend.

My day off

I go to school six days a week, from Monday till Saturday. My day off is on Sunday. I get up at 9 or 10 o'clock.

I help my mother on Saturday morning. We clean our flat. Then I go for a walk with my friends, play games in the yard, or go to the park. Sometimes we go to the cinema or theatre. We like to see new films. In the evening I do my homework, read books or watch TV.

I like Sundays. I think they are my favourite days of the week.

My family

My family is not large. I have a mother, a father and a brother. My mother's name is Anna Petrovna. She is forty. She is a doctor. She is a clever, kind and caring doctor. My Mum is a very nice woman. She is tall and thin. She has big brown eyes, a small nose; her hair is fair and long.

My father's name is Boris Stepanovich. He is 42. He is a driver. He likes his work very much. He is tall. His hair is dark and short. He has a round face. His eyes are big and grey.

My brother's name is Oleg. He is 4 years older\ younger than me. He is a student. Oleg is in the ninth form. He studies well and has many friends. He is fond of music, and plays the guitar.

My name is Olga. I'm tall and thin. My hair is long and fair. My eyes are big and brown. I have a straight nose. I am 12. I am a student. I'm in the fifth form. Literature, English, Russian are my favourite subjects.

In the evenings all the members of our family like to watch TV. Sometimes we go to the theatre or cinema together. When the weather is fine we like to go to the park.

We are a typical Russian family and get on well with each other.

My favourite animals

I like animals and I have a cat, a dog and a parrot at home. I take care of my pets. I spend much time with my animals.

I have a dog. His name is Dick. There is a short hair on his body. The tail of my dog is thin and long. I go for a walk with my dog in the morning and in the evening.

I have a parrot at home. It is а blue and funny bird. His name is Kesha. Our bird is 3 years old. He can speak.

When my friends come to see me I show them my pets.

I like wild animals too. I can see them at the Zoo. Every summer my parents and I go to the Zoo to look at them. There are foxes, wolves, bears, monkeys, elephants and many other animals at the Zoo. I like films about animals too.

9. My Favourite Subject

We learn a lot of subjects at school. They are: Physics, Mathematics, Biology, Russian, Literature, Chemistry, English, History and many other subjects. I think all the subjects are important. I spend much time doing my homework at home. I sit for two or three hours learning Physics, Geography and Maths. My favourite subjects are Literature, History, and English. I like English best of all. I like to read English books, translate stories from English into Russian. At school we read texts from our textbooks, listen to the tapes and learn poems by heart.

Sometimes I speak English with my friends after classes. I study English because I want to know the language well. I'd like to read English and American Literature, to understand it without anybody's help.

My flat

I have got a flat. It is not big. It is on the third floor. The number of my flat is 52. Our flat has two rooms, a kitchen, a bathroom and a corridor.

Our living-room is big. It is light, because it has two windows. There is a round table, four chairs, and two arm-chairs. The TV set is on the right. You can see a sofa near the TV set. There is a picture on the wall, over the sofa.

I have my room. It is small. There is one window in it. The room is light. There is a table in my room. I do my homework there. There is a lamp on the table. There are many bookshelves in my room. You can see Russian and English books there. I like my room very much.

Out kitchen is big and comfortable. The table and chairs are dark. A refrigerator stands near the window. Usually we have breakfast and supper in the kitchen.

The corridor in our flat is long and narrow. There is a telephone in it.

I like my flat very much.

My friends

I have got lots of friends, girlfriends and boyfriends.

Pete is my friend. He is in the fifth form. He likes studying at school. His favourite subjects are Geography and History and he likes English, too.

Pete loves music and takes piano lessons from his music teacher. He can play piano very well.

Pete is also fond of sports and he is the captain of the school basketball team.

Pete is a real friend. He is a very friendly and sociable boy. He always does everything what he promises. We spend free time together. We go for a walk or cinema. We often skate at the stadium or ski in the forest.

I have got another friend. Her name is Tanya. She is a nice girl. She is tall \short and thin. Her eyes are brown and big. Her hair is dark and long.

Tanya is 12. She is in the sixth form. She likes to study at school. Her favourite subject is English. She spends a lot of time learning it. Tanya knows many English poems and stories.

In simmer we like to go for a walk together. Sometimes we go to the cinema or museums.

I like my friends very much. I think they are true friends.

My hobby

I am fond of sport. I have some stamps about sport. I buy them; sometimes my friends give them to me. I like my collection and always show it to my friends.

I'm also fond of playing computer games. All my friends like to play them. My favourite games are … They are very interesting. At school my friends and I discuss the games.

My pet

I like animals and I have got a dog at home. I take care of my pet, feed it, and take it for a walk.

Bob is a naughty dog and likes to play with me. Bob prefers to sit under the table in the kitchen or to lie on the carpet in my room.

My school

I study at school №53. Our school is large and light. It is not old. It is 20 years old. Behind the school there are two sports grounds. In summer we have physical training lessons there.

Our school has 4 floors. There is a dining room on the ground floor. It is clean and nice. There are many flowers on the walls. We have breakfast every morning there.

Our school has many classrooms. We have two English classrooms, History, Geography and Physics classrooms. They are big and light. There are 14 desks and many chairs in the classrooms.

There is a library on the third floor. Our librarian Nadezhda Ivanovna is very nice and friendly. She gives us books and we read them.

My winter holidays

I like winter, because I have long holidays. They are from the 29^th of December till the 10^th of January.

Usually the weather is fine. Sometimes the sun shines brightly and you can see a lot of snow everywhere.

I don't get up early. I sleep long. I have breakfast at 9 or ten o'clock. After breakfast I watch TV, then go for a walk with my friends. Sometimes we go to skate to the stadium or we go to the cinema. In the evening I watch TV or play computer games.

I like my winter holidays as I have a happy holiday -New Year's Day. It is my favorite holiday. My parents give me a lot of presents.

My working day

I get up at seven o'clock on a weekday. I do my morning exercises and then go to the bathroom to wash.

Then I dress, go to the kitchen and have breakfast. As a rule, I have some porridge, a sandwich and a cup of tea.

After breakfast I put on my coat, take my bag and go to school.

Our lessons begin at 8 o'clock. Every day we have 5 or 6 lessons. We study Mathematics, Geography, History, Russian.

At 1.30 we finish our lessons at school. I go home and have dinner. At 3 o'clock I go for a walk with my friends. At 5 o'clock I do my homework.

In the evening I am usually at home. I watch TV or read books. I go to bed at 10 o'clock.

17.New Year's Day

New Year's Day is my favorite holiday. I like it very much. Russian people celebrate it on the first of January. It is a winter holiday. It is the first day of the New Year. I don't go to school and my parents don't work.

In London you also can visit the Tower of London. It is very old. Many years ago it was a prison. Now it is a museum. Today the King and the Queen of Britain do not live in the Tower. When the Queen is in London, she stays in Buckingham Palace.

19. School Life

</ I am a pupil of the fifth form; I study at school number хх. I would like to tell you about our school life. I go to school six days a week. Our classes start at 8 o'clock a. m. and last till 1.30 p.m. So we have 5 or 6 lessons a day. We study many different subjects: Russian, English, literatures, History, Geography, and Biology. Mathematics, Literature and History are my favourite subjects. I make good marks in these subjects. During the classes pupils answer the teacher's questions, do some exercises, write sentences, count and read. I like studying. My favourite proverb is "Live and learn".

20. The capital of Great Britain - London

London is the capital of the UK. It's a mixture of old and new buildings and there is a lot to see and learn there.

Tourists in London visit Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London or the Houses of Parliament. They see Big Ben and hear it deep voice.

If you are in London you can visit Buckingham Palace. A lot of tourists go to see it. It is the place where British kings and queens live when they are in London. Tourists in London stand outside and see the Changing of the Guard.
