Sergei Pavlovich Korolev was the lead Soviet rocket engineer and spacecraft designer in the Soviet Union.

He was born in 1907 in Zhitomir.

Korolev became interested in aviation when he went to school in Odessa.

In 1924 he attended the Kiev Polytechnic Institute as they had an aviation branch.

At the age of nineteen he became a student of Moscow State University of Bauman.

Korolev wrote his diploma under the guidance of academic Tupolev.

After meeting with Ciolkovsky, Korolev started to learn the possibility of flying in open space.

In 1955 Korolev created the first satellite of the Earth which was a huge progress in the science of space.

One of his greatest projects was realized in 1961 when Uriy Gagarin made the first flight into space on the Vostok-1 designed by S.Korolev.

Lots of places are associated with the name of Sergei Korolyov

.Nowadays the town in Moscow region is named in honor of Korolev. It's the capital of space flights in Russian Federation.

A street in Moscow was named after Korolev in 1966 and is now called Ulitsa Akademika Korolyova (Academician Korolyov Street).

The memorial home-museum of academician S.P.Korolyov was established in 1975 in the house where Korolev lived.
