Цели: - знакомство с традиционными праздниками и фестивалями Объединенного

Королевства;

- развитие мотивации для изучения иностранного языка;

- воспитание уважения к чужой культуре и творчеству.

Оборудование: - проектор для демонстрации видеоматериалов, постеры, стенгазеты.

Ход мероприятия:

At midnight on the 31^st of December all British people celebrate the coming of the New Year.

(в полночь 31 декабря все британцы празднуют приход Нового года).

New Year's Eve is a more important festival in Scotland than in England and it even has a special name "Hogmanay" (Канун Нового года более важен в Англии, и он даже имеет особое название «Хогманей»)

It was believed that the 1^st person to visit one's house on New Year's Day could bring good or bad luck. The 1^st footer was required to carry 3 articles: a piece of coal to wish warmth, a piece of bread to wish food and a silver coin to wish wealth.(Верили, что первый человек, пришедший в дом на Новый год, мог принести удачу или несчастье. Первый гость должен был принести 3 вещи: кусочек угля как пожелание тепла, кусочек хлеба как пожелание сытой жизни и серебряную монету как пожелание богатства).

If the 1^st footer was a woman she would bring bad luck.(Если первой придёт женщина это может принести неудачу).

-In March and April there are some important dates: the 1^st of March is St.David's Day- the National Day of Wales; the 17^th of March is St.Patrik's Day- the National day of Ireland, and St.George's day, the national day of England is on the 23^rd of April.

-We should say that Wales and England don't celebrate their days with holidays. Only Ireland has a holiday on St. Patrick's Day. All the people wear green .Here you can see some pictures.

-But the most important spring holiday is Easter.

Easter is a religious festival. Christians related it to the resurrection of Jesus. The symbols of the holiday are dyeing eggs and the Easter bunny.

Here and there Morris dances can be seen. Morris dances are special ones for May Days, they are like games. Dancers wear national costumes.

-The most important and beloved festival in Britain is in December.

• Its Christmas

There are a lot of traditions connected with Christmas but the most important one is the giving of presents.

Children leave a long sock or stocking at the end of their beds hoping that Father Christmas will come and bring them presents. And they are usually not disappointed.

Later in the afternoon the Queen delivers her traditional Christmas message to the UK and The Commonwealth.

On Christmas day the family usually sits down to a big turkey dinner followed by Christmas pudding.

The 26 ^th of December is also a public holiday, Boxing Day, and this the time to visit friends and relatives or watch football.

On the Sunday before Christmas many churches hold a carol service. Sometimes carol singers can be heard in the streets.
