Ход урока

Hello, boys and girls! My name is Tatyana Borisovna. Nice to meet you. Look at the pictures at the board! Try to guess what a subject of lesson is. Give your ideas, your associations. Ecology. Environmental problems. Pollution.

There are different types of pollution. What kinds of pollution do you know? Let's find the words that have similar meaning with pollution. (harm, damage, hit, injury) You can see some booklets and match the pictures and the texts and tittles. Two pictures are extra. Two pictures are left. What is it? What kind of pollution is it? Have you ever heard of this pollution? It's visual pollution. Dear guests, can you help us? You can see a questionnaire in an envelope. Please, come to our guests and ask them. Put a tick in the right column. How many guests knew this fact before? Put your hand up if you have a tick in this column. The majority of our guests chose….

Let's devide into three groups. Turn the page and look at the words. If you don't know any words, ask me. You have 10 seconds.

Group 1: your task is to watch the video and underline the words which name the things which visually pollute big cities.

Group 2: your task is to say where you can see these things. Underline the necessary words.

Group 3: your task is to underline the adjectives you need to describe these things.

Check your guesses. Let's create a definition for "visual pollution". It is a type of pollution when there are lots of advertisement, billboards which destroy, damage a view, panorama. Look at some definitions. Choose the best variant and complete our definition.

We have one more picture. Do you remember it? What is it? It is noise pollution. Make a list of things, that can cause noise. Please, write the words down. How many words have you got? Count, please. The person who has got the biggest number of words is the winner. Read your words. And all the rest can add their own words.

Next task will be listening. Listen to the speaker and fill in the missing words. Check your guesses. Let's make a conclusion:

  1. What are the disadvantages for cities? Make a list of adjectives. (awful, terrible, horrible, frightful, alike, ugly, unpleasant, unattractive)

  2. What are the disadvantages for people? Make a list of nouns.(stress, aggression, attack, crime, depression, suicide, anger)

  3. Describe your ideal city. Make a list of adjectives. Ideal city is….(clean, clear, impressive, attractive)

Thanks, well done! People pollute not only cities but also themselves. It is called personal pollution. We need one person for our so-called experiment. Who's brave? Come here, please. You have some labels. Open the envelopes. Stick them on our volunteer, exhibit.

If you want to improve( make ourselves and the city better), I suggest you o make a manifesto. You need some grammar material for it. The first subjunctive.

Put these sentences in the right subjunctive mood.

Your home task is to complete our manifesto. Our cities become similar, alike, ordinary. They lose their features.

Watch the video and imagine what will happen if our suggestions in the manifesto become true/real. Now our lesson is over. Good bye!
