Цели:

- развитие навыков просмотрового чтения;

- активизация лексики по теме «Средства массовой информации» в монологической речи;

- формировать системное представление учащихся о СМИ.

Методы и приемы: работа над произносительными навыками, беседа, опрос, рассказ, работа с картинками, работа с текстом, поощрение.

Оборудование: проектор, экран, презентация Rower point, карточки с надписями, учебник, рабочая тетрадь.

Организационный момент

- Good morning, pupils! I'm glad to see you. I'm sure everybody is all right. Let's make our lesson interesting and useful. The theme of our lesson is «We and Mass Media». Today we are going to speak about some means of communication. They are traditionally called the media. Mass media rules actually the world and plays a very important part in our life.

And now tell me what types of mass media do you know?

(I know TV, the Internet, newspapers, magazines, telephones, books, radio, letters, telegrams, tabloids).

So, pupils, I see you know mass media. But what are their definitions? Listen to my riddles and try to guess it.

  1. A paper printed and sold usually daily or weekly with news, advertisements etc. (Newspaper).

  2. The process of sending and receiving messages through the air; broadcasting programmes for people to listen to. (Radio).

  3. Broadcasting programmes for people to watch on their television sets. (Television).

  4. A newspaper with rather small pages, many pictures and little serious news. (Tabloid).

  5. A way to communicate with people using the computer. (The Internet).

  6. A way to communicate with others: people get opportunity to call, send and get messages. (Telephone).

The next task is to find out advantages (plus sides) and disadvantages (minus sides) of mass media. On my table you see the cards. Come to the teacher's table and choose one of them. Think of advantages and disadvantages of them. I give you 3 minutes.

Совершенствование навыков просмотрового чтения

As for the newspapers I would like you to answer the main question of the lesson: «Do you read newspapers on Sundays or every day?» Now read the text in ex. 34, p. 70 and you'll know what types of newspapers there are.

  • National newspapers express a political opinion. Local newspapers contain a lot of advertisements, news and information about films, concerts, other things that are happening in the local area.

  • Daily newspapers are published on every day of the week except Sunday. Sunday newspapers are published only on Sunday. Besides, they are larger than daily newspapers.

  • Quality/serious newspapers have many detailed articles about national and international events. Tabloids are smaller in size, have more pictures and shorter articles about less important events or about private lives of well-known people.
