The 8-th form, Unit 3. «Traditions and manners».

Lesson 3. « What do you know about British? »

Цели:

Социокультурный аспект - знакомство с некоторыми традициями и праздниками в Великобритании: The Fist Foot, Queen's telegram, New Year Resolutions, Chinese New Year, St.Valentine's Day, Christmas, New Year, Guy Fawkes, Halloween, Easter.

Развивающий аспект - развитие способностей обобщать, формулировать выводы, развитие способности осуществлять репродуктивные и продуктивные действия;

Воспитательный аспект - воспитание положительного отношения к праздникам и традициям англоязычных стран, формирование потребности и способности понимать чужие точки зрения по данной теме;

Учебный аспект - развитие устной речи;

Сопутствующие задачи: развитие умения читать/ аудировать с целью извлечения конкретной информации, детального понимания и понимания основной идеи текста.

Речевой материал: продуктивный лексический - maybe, to doubt, probably, can be mistaken, to be connected with, to be associated with,.. make(s) me think of…

Этапы мастерской.

I Индуктор.

Teacher: What does this word "Xmas" mean?

Pupil1: Maybe it is connected with…

Pupil 2: I doubt but it is associated with…

Pupil 3: Probably it makes me think of…

Pupil 4: I can be mistaken but I think…

II Самоконструкция.

Teacher: Britain is the country of traditions. Match the traditions and their descriptions (AB Unit 3, exercise 4 (1) page 37).

1) What do you know about British traditions? Who receives the name "the Fist Foot"?

Pupil 1: This is the fist visitor to enter a house on New Year's morning.

2) Teacher: What superstitions do British people have?

Pupil 2: The fist visitor of the year must carry food, drink and coal into the house.

3) Teacher: What is Stonehenge used for?

Pupil 3: It is used for a calendar.

4) Teacher: Who can get a telegram from the Queen?

Pupil 4: Each British person gets a telegram from the Queen on his or her hundredth birthday.

5) Teacher: What are the New Year Resolutions?

Pupil 5: Promising to improve the behavior and to give up bad habits.

6) Teacher: What is the purpose of celebrating the New Year by the Chinese?

Pupil 6: It is a time when people chase away the evil spirits by setting off firecrackers.

III. Социализация.

Teacher: What British traditions do you know ? Tell each other.

Pupil1 tells pupil 2, pupil 2 tells pupil3, pupil 3 tells pupil4, and etc.

IV. Социоконструкция.

Teacher: Imagine that I have a magic flower. There are names of British traditions which are written on the leaves.

Children, take the leaves and do the tasks.

Groups discuss their tasks and prepare to answer.

V. Групповая социореализация.

The groups tell about the British traditions and manners.

VI Разрыв.

Teacher: At different celebrations people are involved in different activities. Ask your British friend about British celebrations.

Pupil 1: Do people set off firecrackers on Guy Fawkes Night?

Pupil 2: Do people give gifts to the relatives and friends on Xmas?

Pupil 3: Do people cook dinner for the whole family on Bank Holiday?

Pupil 4: Do people dye eggs and present their relatives and friends with them on Easter? … Etc.

VII. Рефлексия.

Teacher: What new information have you got at the lesson?

Pupils: We have spoken about British traditions and celebrations; have got some new information about different activities on holidays.
