- Good afternoon, boys and girls! I am glad to see you. Today we have a competition between the 9th forms. It is called "What do we know about Britain?"
Our competition will have five stages. They are:
1. Auction "Great Britain" (answer the questions).
2. "British names" (match the names).
3. "Christmas Day" (put the missed words).
4. "Places of interest in London" (guess the places).
5. "The British" (a short story about the British).
Stage 1.
You must answer the questions about Great Britain. Each team has seven questions. You have the opportunity to get one point for each question. Remember if the team can not answer the question the other team can try to answer it and get the point.Team 1

Look at the pictures and guess places of interest in London.

It is more than nine hundred years old. There are many monuments and statues there, many English kings and queens are buried there. It is famous for the Poet' Corner. It is one of the most famous and beautiful churches in London.

They say it is the most beautiful place in London. In the middle of it a monument to Admiral Nelson is situated. The monument includes four bronze lions. There are two fountains in it.

This building stands near Westminster Palace and has the clock. The clock of the tower has four faces. Inside there is a very loud bell which weighs more than 13 tons. Sir Benjamin Hall was in charge of the building. He was a very tall man. And in honour of him people called the clock.

It is a wonderful building. The Queen Victoria Memorial is situated in front of it. It takes you ten minutes to get from this building to Trafalgar Square, which is the centre of London. The Queen of Great Britain lives here.
