Тема: «English - speaking Countries».



Цель: совершенствование лексических навыков говорения.



Задачи:

- способствовать формированию страноведческих знаний;

- развивать навыки информационной культуры;

- формировать уважительное уважение и толерантность к языку и культуре других стран;

- развивать способности к сравнению и сопоставлению, заполнению таблицы;

- развивать коммуникативные способности учащихся, умение выбирать адекватные языковые и речевые средства для успешного решения коммуникативной задачи;

- учить строить краткое сообщение с опорой на текст и план;

- развивать познавательную, эмоциональную и волевую сферу учащихся;

- развивать навыки контроля и самоконтроля.

Оборудование:

раздаточный материал, тесты, учебники, презентация, проектор, компьютер, экран, географические карты англо - говорящих стран.





Ход урока.



  1. Организационный момент

-Good morning, boys and girls!

I am glad to see you.

P: Приветствие-рифмовка

T: How are you, Olga? (I am fine, thank you)

What is the weather like now?

P: It's cold and cloudy today.



2. Активизация речевых навыков.

-Have a look! I've got a letter from my friend. She lives in the country which is far from Russia. You can get there by plane. It will take you 11 hours to get there. She lives in a big city. It's a financial and cultural centre. It's famous for skyscrapers and modern architecture. The Statue of Liberty and Broadway attract many visitors. What country is she from? Where does she live?

P: She is from the USA. She lives in New York.

T: You are quite right.

What are we going to talk about?

P: About English-speaking countries.

T: You know English-speaking countries. What are they? (Name them, please)

-Why are they called English-speaking countries?

P: People speak English in them.

P: English is their mother tongue.

T: Good for you.

You also learn English. That's why I think you should learn more facts about English-speaking countries, their geography, people, traditions.

  • As far as I know some of your classmates have got pen-friends in English-speaking countries. Am I right?

  • If you want to get some more information about these countries, listen to your friends' stories and ask them some questions.

I have got a pen-friend. His name is Patrick. He is 13. He is from the UK. It lies on the British Isles. It is an island state. It consists of four parts: England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The capital of the UK is London. London is the world's seventh biggest city. In Britain you can meet people of different nationalities. Its population is above 58 mln people. The official language is English.

T: Have you got any questions?

P: Is it a large or small country?

P1: It's one of the world's smallest countries.

P: What is the full name of the country?

P1: The full name of the country is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

T: Thank you.



P2My pen-friend's name is David. He is from the USA. It is one of the most powerful and advanced countries in the world. It is situated in the central part of the North American continent.(It stretches from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west and from Canada in the north to Mexico in the south. The capital of the USA is Washington) .The USA has the third largest population in the world. Its population is over 250 mln people. It's a real melting pot. English is the official language in the USA. It is known as American English. The second state language is Spanish. The flag of the USA is called "Stars and Stripes"

P3: And my pen-friend Roy is from Canada, the second largest country in the world. It's situated in North America. The capital of Canada is Ottawa. In Canada there are people of different nationalities. (Its population is above 28 mln people.) There are two official languages in the country, English and French. The red and white Canadian flag shows a leaf of the maple tree. The maple leaf is the official emblem of Canada. (Canada is famous for its 7 largest lakes).

P: What's its population? (Its population is above 28 mln people.)

P4I have got a pen-friend too. Her name is Laura. She is from Australia. Australia is the biggest island and the smallest continent in the world. It lies between the Indian and the Pacific Oceans. Its population is only 18 mln people. (The capital of Australia is Canberra) English is the official language in Australia. But it is different from British English and American English. Sometimes Australia is called "Oz" or "the Lucky Country"

P: The capital of Australia is the Sidney, isn't it? (No, it isn't. The capital of Australia is Canberra)



P5. And my friend is from a small country in the Pacific Ocean. She is from New Zealand. Her country consists of two main islands and some smaller islands. It looks like Italy upside down. When it's summer in Europe, it's winter in New Zealand. The capital of New Zealand is Wellington. The population is mixed. It is about 4 million people. Some Maori people lived there before the British came. The official languages are English and Maori. English spoken in New Zealand is often called Kiwi English. New Zealand is sometimes called "The World's Biggest Farm" (It is famous for its products; butter, cheese, meat)

P: Why is English spoken in New Zealand called "Kiwi English" (It's called so because the kiwi is the national bird and emblem of the country)
