The Procedure of the Lesson

I.Org. moment.

Greeting.

Dividing into two groups for conducting a competition lesson. Counters for evaluation and giving points.

Teacher: Glad to see you! We are going to have unusual lesson today . We will speak about one of the famous and progressive figure of the romantic period, his name is Lord Byron. He was born in Ireland in 1788. In 1815 he divorced and left England he went to the East. Byron's poetry was widely condemned on moral grounds and frequently attacked by critics, was immensely popular in England and even more so on the Continent. Much of his poetry and drama exerted great inspiration on Romanticism. His legacy of influence in European poetry, music, the novel, opera has been immense. In 1823 he went to Greece and took part in the war, unfortunately, he was killed there in 1824. Please listen to one of his marvelous poem.

Teacher: Now children you must choose the only right variant to complete the sentences:

Ex 1: The speaker in " My soul is dark" speaks to the minstrel

1. In the hope that music can make him happy.

2. Because music might help him in his sorrow.

3. Because he is full of joy.

Ex 2: Please give extended answers to the following questions:

1. Why it is important for speaker that the musician should play?

2. What kind of melody does he want?

Pupil 1: In my opinion, the author wants to listen to the sorrow, melancholic melody.

Pupil 2: I think, the author is very unhappy and does not conceal his feelings.

Teacher: Read the last sentence again. It's the main idea of the poem. I want to listen to your own translations.

4: Give the opposites.

Teacher : Children, you have read three versions of the poem, choose the best variant and tell me why do you think so?

Teacher: Preparing to our lesson, we have read a lot of poems by Byron in our English lessons and lessons of Russian literature. Now we read and listen to a literary translation one of the famous his poem " Sun of sleepless". Be very attentively, please. Look at the blackboard to analyses new words:

Tremulously - с дрожью

To dispel - рассеять

A beam - луч

To behold - созерцать, узреть.

Sun of the sleepless! Melancholy star!

Whose tearful beam glows tremulously far

That show'st the darkness thou canst not dispel,
