Тема урока: «Geographical position of Canada» Тип урока: урок закрепления нового материала

Цели урока:

Образовательные: вооружить учащихся новыми знаниями по теме «Географическое положение Канады», создать условий для развития коммуникативной компетенции учащихся в основных видах речевой деятельности через учебный материал урока.

Воспитывающие: содействовать в ходе урока воспитанию у учащихся патриотизма к своей стране, толерантного отношения к стране изучаемого языка.

Развивающие: развивать познавательный интерес к страноведческому материалу по теме. Создавать условия для развития ассоциативного и критического мышления учащихся.

- Good morning, boys and girls! How are you?

- I'm fine, thank you. Take your seats, please. Let's begin our lesson.

Who is on duty today? Who is absent? What date is it today?

What was your home work? Are you ready? Let me have a look at what you were doing at home.

- Good morning! We are fine, thanks. And you?

I'm on duty today.

2. Актуализация знаний. Речевая зарядка. Warm up.

Imagine you have a chance to visit some country you want. Look at the map of the world and choose a country. So, come to the whiteboard, tick any country on the map and say why you would like to visit this or that country.


P1: I'd like to visit the USA because I'd like to visit Hollywood and Disneyland

P2: I'd like to visit Great Britain because it's the country of the English language and England with its customs and traditions.

P3: I want to visit Australia. Its one of the most beautiful country in the world. (and etc.)

As for me I'd visit Canada because Canada has an interesting history. So, what do you think what theme of our lesson is?

Right you are. Today we'll speak about Geographical position of Canada

- At our last lesson we read much about Canada and your home task was to find more new facts about Canada and its people.

Well, go the whiteboard and tell about Canada.

P1: Canada is huge. It's the second largest country in the world. It's very rich in natural resources and people. Canada is full of contrasts with one of the largest territories in the world and very small population, igloos and skyscrapers. Canada is multicultural. Since it welcomes immigration, more and more people come to live here every year.

The next task is population.


P2: The population of Canada is about 29 million people. The aboriginal people or First Nations had lived there for thousands of years before the Europeans came. People of different nationalities live in Canada. There are 2 official languages: English and French.

What about natural resources?

Р3: It is rich in the following natural resources: non-ferrous metals, uranium, oil, natural gas, coal. They produce timber, gold, nickel, aluminum, lead and 15 % of the world's diamonds.

Would you like to tell about geographical names?

Р4: A lot of the names of the cities and lakes came from the language of the aboriginal people. Canada comes from the Iroquoian word Kanata which means "villages". The name of the lake Ontario means "beautiful lake". Two other great lakes were called Erie and Huron after the tribes used to live in that area. The capital was called Ottawa after the tribe of Odawa. In 1787 the British founded the city of Toronto the name of which means "place where trees stand in the water"

P1: I think the lesson was interesting. We've learnt a lot of interesting facts about Canada.

Today we have spoken about Canada. I want you to look at the whiteboard. There is a great number of maple leaves here. Why do you think so?

P1: To my opinion it is because a maple leaf is a symbol of Canada.

P2: A maple leaf is on the flag of the country. etc.
