Урок по английскому языку на тему Праздники и традиции в Великобритании (6 класс)

VII. Развитие навыков говорения (монологической и диалогической речи): (8 мин)

T: You are good pupils. You've known about the main tradition in Great Britain "Trooping of the Colour". But there are some other interesting traditions of the holidays. Some of you were given the task to find and tell us information about holidays and traditions in Britain. Are you ready?

(2 ученика рассказывают про праздник, остальные задают им вопросы) (Слайд 11).

P1: I would like to tell you about Christmas. It is the most popular holiday in Britain. It's celebrated on the 25th of December. It is a happy holiday for many people in different countries.

P3: It's very interesting. And what about Christmas traditions?

P2: Oh, in Britain they have many interesting traditions. Usually people put their Christmas presents into boxes. Children write letters to Santa Claus. They tell Santa Claus what they want for Christmas and give promises to be good in the coming year. They are called "resolutions". Children hang their Christmas stockings on their beds or put them under the tree. Father Christmas puts presents into them.

P4: I heard that one of the most important tradition in every family in Britain is a Christmas tree, isn't it?

P1: Yes, you are right. The family decorates it together. Every English family sends many Christmas cards. Every year there is a very big Christmas tree in the center of London, in Trafalgar Square. On Christmas Day all the family is together. They have Christmas dinner. There is always a turkey and Christmas pudding on the table.

T: Thank you. And how do people celebrate St. Valentine's Day? (Слайд 12)

P1: St. Valentine's Day is a romantic holiday in Britain, I think. First Valentine cards appeared in the 18th century. Nowadays Valentine's Day is celebrated in many countries of the world on the 14th of February. In Europe. North America and Australia this day is known as Saint Valentine's Day.

P3: How do Englishmen celebrate it?

P2: On that day people send "Valentines" - special cards to their friends and relatives. You can also send a card to a person you don't know. But traditionally you mustn't write your name on it. There are a lot of symbols connected with Saint Valentine's Day: red hearts, boxes of sweets, beautifully decorated cards, Cupids.

T: Very well. And what about Halloween? (Слайд 13, 14)

P3: It can be a stupid question, but I'm afraid I don't know much about Halloween. What is it like?

P1: Parties are usually great fun. People dress up in strange costumes and pretend they're ghosts and witches. They play games and dance and laugh a lot. When the party is over, they put on white sheets and knock on their neighbours` doors asking if they would like a "trick" or "treat".

P4: Trick or treat? What do you mean?

P2: Nothing dangerous. If they give them a treat - some sweets, nuts or cakes - they say "thank you" and go away. But if they don't they play a trick on them.

P4: What? A trick? What do they do?

P2: They make a lot of noise and throw flour on their front doorstep!

P3: Wow! How do they prepare for the party?

P1: They cut an ugly face in a pumpkin and put a candle inside. It shines through the eye holes. Then they take the pumpkin to the party to decorate the hall.

P5: How interesting! I would like to celebrate Halloween.

T: Good! And what can you tell about Guy Fawkes` Day? (Слайд 15)

P1: Do you know the history of the holiday Guy Fawkes` Night?

P3: No, but I'd like to know.

P1: In 1605 King James the First was on the throne. As a Protestant, he was very unpopular with Roman Catholics.

P3: I see, but who was Guy Fawkes and why is it celebrated on the 5th of November?

P2: Have some patience! I'm coming. So, some of those Roman Catholics planned to blow up the Houses of Parliament on the 5th of November that year, when the King was going to open the Parliament. Under the House of Lords they stored thirty-six barrels of gunpowder, which were to be exploded by a man called Guy Fawkes.

P4: How interesting! Did they manage to realize their plan? Were the Houses of Parliament blown up?

P1: No, one of the plotters spoke about the plan and Fawkes was discovered, arrested and later hanged. Since that day Englishmen traditionally celebrate November the 5th by burning a dummy, made of straw and old clothes, on a bonfire.

T: You've prepared very valuable information about holidays. It was interesting, thank you.

VIII. Развитие навыков чтения: (5 мин)
