The Bank Holidays are days when banks do not work all over in Great Britain. They are: Christmas(Dec.24), Boxing Day(Dec.26), New Year's Day(Jan.1), Good Friday( Ap.6) , Easter Monday, May Day(the last Monday of May), August Bank Holiday (the last Monday of August).

The festival to remember the birth of Jesus is of course " Christmas"(December,24)

Everybody can see the Yeoman Warder or "Beefeaters" near the Tower of London.

The name of the ship of Captain Admiral Nelson is the "Agamemnon", but I know that Captain Admiral Nelson lost his life being deadly wounded at the ship 'Victory'.

British policemen are called "Bobby"

The "White Sales" take place in Philadelphia. They sell there sheets, pillow-cases, linen with discount. It's usually a big fair of white pieces of clothes. In Great Britain this kind of sale is popular too. Usually they sell towels in packs there.

The pages of the US phone books are white, blue and yellow. White pages- for names and surnames; blue- for schools, hospitals…; yellow pages-for offices ( it's a business page).

The Queen of the United Kingdom is the Queen of New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Bahamas, Barbuda Islands, Jamaica and some other ones,. She is considered to be the Queen of Commonwealth including16 countries.

The symbol of piece in Great Britain is a poppy (мак). The national bird of Great Britain is Redbreast Robin (красногрудая малиновка). The national tree of England is oak (дуб).

In school life the word "crocodile" means walking in procession two by two in girl's school.

The name of the USA government is "Uncle Sam"

On his or her one hundredth birthday, a British person gets a telegram from the Queen of England.

In the U.K. foreigners usually are taught Standard English.

The first U.S. national park is Yellowstone. It is located in three States: Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. It was founded in 1872. It's the first national park in the world. The tallest skyscrapers in the world are situated in the United States of America. The tallest tower in the world is "the CN Tower" in Canada (553 meters high), among the buildings the tallest one is "the Empire State Building (1454 meters high). But I know that new skyscrapers are built now, that'll be higher that CN or Empire. For example, in China…

The "Tossing of Caber" is the most impressive event at the Highland Games, which is held in Scotland every year. The caber is a fir tree. The size of a caber is about five meters long. That is 19 feet long or 5.67 m. It is 10 inches thick, that is 25 cm. Its weight is 45 kg. or more or 120 pounds. I know some other popular competitions: putting the weight, throwing the hammer, dancing and piping.

Tea came to Britain from China. Chinese merchants took it to Britain in 1500. It was very expensive and only rich people could drink tea.

Romans built London; it was called Londinium in A.D.43.

Eisteddfod is a festival of Welsh culture. Bards and folk-singers come to Wales to take part in Eisteddfod.

The state system of the United Kingdom is a "constitutional monarchy".

The British Prime-Minister lives in Downing Street, London.

The highest mark in British schools is "A"( exсellent- отлично, превосходно); "B" (good- хорошо,выше ожидаемого); "C"(satisfactory-удовлетворительно, не плохо); "D" (bad-плохо, слабо); "E" ( very bad- очень плохо, очень слабо, бедно, отвратительно).

The "bowler hat" means the hat in a form of a "cylinder". The Englishmen began to wear it since 1797. They were brought to Engand from France and the first man who put this hat on for the first time was John Getterington - the Englishman. Since that time this kind of a hat became very popular among the aristocrats and businessmen.

The Englishmen set up a Monument to Francis Drake in Plymouth, a small town at the west coast of Britain.

Edinburgh - the capital of Scotland was built on 7 hills.

There are two slots in the traditional post-box, which everybody can see in the streets of London nowadays. One is for overseas post and first-class post and the second slot is for second-class post /not urgent/.
