Ход Урока

  1. Good afternoon, children!

You were to read the story" The Picture Book" from "Jeremy And Hamlet" after Hugh Walpole. I hope you liked the book as much as I did. To tell the truth I didn't know much about Walpole/ After reading the story I made my mind to learn more about him. I think it's true that 'There are no dull subjects, there are dull writers".

Hugh Walpole was born in Auckland , New Zealand in 1884. He was educated in England and he regarded himself an Englishman rather than an Aucklander. The book "Jeremy " was inspired by his biography .

2Today we are going to discuss the story " The Picture Book".

First I would like to know if you really enjoyed the story.

There are some words of wisdom on the blackboard and you have to choose one which suits our story best at the end of the lesson.

A trouble shared is a trouble halved

( When you tell another person about your problems, they become easer to bear)

After a storm comes calm.

( When something bad has happened, a period of quiet follows).

Actions speak louder than words.

(It is not what you say tells people what kind of person you are, but what you do)

Honesty is the best policy.

(It's always better to tell the truth because telling a lie cause more problems than solves)

All's well that ends well.

(When an accident ends happily despite earlier difficulties, these unpleasant events seem unimportant.)

3. While reading you came across new words. Here there are on the blackboard: a muff, a stopper, a blotter, a work-basket.

How did you understand them?

Look at your papers and match the definitions to the words.

( на листочках учеников написано)

1. a muff a) a basket for knitting things

2. a stopper b) a tube of fur cloth into which women put their

hands to keep them warm.

3. a blotter c) a thing to keep the papers in

4. a work-basket d) an object put into the top of the bottle to stop the

liquid from coming.

Good for you! Match the words to the pictures on the blackboard, please.
