Урок в 10 классе

Тема урока: Соединённые Штаты Америки

Цель урока: Практиковать учащихся в устной речи, чтении, аудировании.

Совершенствовать навыки аудирования, чтения, устной речи. Отрабатывать Present Simple, Past Simple, the Passive Voice, the Article в географических названиях.

Тренировать учащихся в работе с лексикой.

Развивать познавательный интерес, память, внимание, чувство языка.

Воспитывать позитивное отношение к изучению английского языка и страны США.

Оборудование: мультимедийная доска, компьютер, аудио записи, фрагменты фильмов, карта США, рисунки национальных символов страны.

Ход урока

P1: We know many interesting facts about the USA.( Слайд 3)

It is situated on the North American continent and is washed by two oceans: the Pacific and the Atlantic. It borders on two countries: Canada and Mexico. This large country has a lot of mountains, rivers, lakes. The main mountains are: the Cordilleras, the Appalachian and the Rocky mountains.

The longest rivers are: the Mississippi and the Missouri.

The USA is the highly developed industrial and agricultural country.

P2: (Слайд 4) Who discovered America? The answer is: nobody knows.

North America may have been discovered by Vikings. In 1492 three ships under Columbus landed the continent. But he thought that he came to India. In 1507 Amerigo Vispucci introduced new land to the world. This continent was called after him - "America". In 1776 English protestants separated from Britain and declared liberty and freedom and formed original colonies.

(Слайд 5) The USA divided into 50 states. Each of states has its own capital, government and symbol.

Americans put the right hand over their heart and face the flag when the national anthem is sung.

50 stars mean 50 states, 13 stripes mean original colonies.

National colours are red, white and blue.

(Слайд 8) The American Bald Eagle is a national symbol of the country. It is symbolized each individual's independence and strength. It was officially adopted in June 20, 1782.

P3: (Слайд 9) The United States of America is a parliamentary republic. The Government is divided into three branches: legislative (the US Congress), executive (the President and his Administration) and judicial (the US Supreme Court). There are two main political parties in the USA: the Democratic (symbolize by an ''elephant'').

The US President is both a head of State and Government.

There were 44 presidents.

(Слайд 11) The President of the USA is a federative state. All the legislative power is vested in Congress which consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The famous cities are: New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Detroit.

When we think of Americans, we usually associate them with colourful clothes, noisy behaviour, hamburgers and Coca-Cola. But what are they really like? What is their way of living? Let's try to answer these questions.
