Teacher: Good morning! I am happy to see you at our party. It is the 15th of December, but we are looking for Christmas. You know, that in England it is the most important holiday of the year. Now the pupils of the 6th and 5th forms came here to show you how people in Great Britain and America celebrate this wonderful holiday. (Pupils of the 6th form come and begin their story about Christmas)

Pupil 1: Good morning, everybody. You know that very soon England, America and some other countries will celebrate Christmas and New Year's Day. But most of all people of that countries like Christmas. Christmas is one of the most popular holiday for millions of people all over the world. It is celebrated on the 25th of December. Every year the people of Norway give the city of London a present. It's a big Christmas tree and it stands in Trafalgar square. Central streets are beautifully decorated.

Christmas tree is usually decorated in every house. It is always very beautiful. It is usually decorated with red ribbon, small lamps and bells. And on the top of the tree you can see the Christmas Angel or the Christmas Star.

People also decorate their houses with holly and mistletoe. Holly is an evergreen tree with green leaves and red berries. The leaves with berries are used to make attractive Christmas wreaths.

Mistletoe is another evergreen plant used for Christmas decorations not only in Britain but in other European countries. In many countries, a boy and a girl caught standing beneath the mistletoe must kiss each other.

So, on Christmas Eve the house is decorated with wreaths made of mistletoe, holly, branches of pine and with red apples and candles.

Pupil 2: The fun starts the night before on the 24th of December. Children hang stockings at the end of their beds, hoping that Santa Claus will come down the chimney during the night and fill them with toys and sweets. So, because of it on the roofs of some houses in the USA you can see the figure of Santa Claus and the figure of his famous deer Rudolf.

Christmas is a family holiday. Relatives usually meet for the big Christmas dinner of turkey and Christmas pudding. And everyone gives and receives presents.

As talking about Christmas dinner, we can say that nearly all Christmas food is traditional: Christmas dinner and Christmas pudding. British Christmas dinner is a roast turkey with carrots, potatoes, peas, Brussels sprout and gravy. There are sausages and bacon too. Then, after the turkey, there is Christmas pudding. Real Christmas puddings always have a piece of holly on the top. The holly on the pudding is part of the decoration. Also, you can pour brandy over the pudding and light it with a match.

You could do without turkey or goose, but a Christmas dinner in Britain without Christmas pudding would be really strange.

Pupil 3: So, Christmas is very happy and wonderful holiday, especially among children. Everybody sings, dances and spends a really good time. In every house you can hear one of the most popular song which is called "Jingle Bells". And this song is not popular only in the USA and England but all over the world.

So, we got to know how this holiday is celebrated in England and America. And now let's check up how you understood what we have told to you. So, please answer our questions. Who answers them will get the "Christmas Star». The more questions you answer the more stars you will get. So, are you ready? Listen to us very attentively.

Pupil 3: What is the most popular holiday in Britain and America?

Pupil 2: When is Christmas celebrated?

Pupil 1: Who usually brings presents to the children?

Pupil 3: Do you like this holiday?

Teacher: Very good! I think everybody is in a good mood today. After this story about Christmas let's play the game. Do you like to play?

Children: Yes.

Teacher: OK, I need 5 pupils. Come here, please and make the circle. Our game is called "Take a present". To the music you will pass this thing to each other. When the music stops the last pupil who will have the present must take this wrapper away. We will continue this game until the last wrapper will be taken away. The last pupil who takes the wrapper away will take the present. So, it's very interesting to know who will be the winner. (Children begin to play this game)

Teacher: In holidays all people have a good time. As our girls have told us, they sing songs, dance, and participate in different competitions, some of them read poems. So, there are a lot of Christmas poems. And I want our participants come here and read their wonderful poems. (Children come out and read the Christmas poems)

Pupil 1: A little childish and naive

Strange dreams do come to you,

They mostly come on Christmas Eve

To bring some feeling of relief,

Bring happiness to you

Pupil 2: To make you cheerful and gay,

To make the sun shine bright,

Fill every hour and day

With certain full-of-hope pray

For a new-born day and light

Pupil 3: These dreams of fairy lands and seas,

Where life is paradise,

These dreams are birds you cannot seize,

Like little clouds, if you please,

You'll see them, close your eyes.

They'll come to you to ease your heart.

With Christmas dreams you cannot part

Pupil 4: I heard the bells on Christmas day

Their old familiar carols play,

And wild and sweet

The words repeat

Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Teacher: Thank you very much, boys and girls. And now I am sure that you are ready to play Christmas game. So, do you want to play games?

Children: Yes! We want!

Teacher: OK, very good. And now you are ready to do our task. Please, look at the board. You can see the сode number. Your task is to decode and to read the phrase and the word. That pupil, who does it, will get the Christmas Star. (Children do this task)

Jingle Bells.

Dashing through the snow

In a one horse open sleigh

O'er the hills we go

Singing all the way.

Bells on bobtail ring,

Making feeling bright.

What fun it is to ride and sing

The sleighing song tonight.

Refrain:

Jingle Bells, jingle Bells

Jingle all the way.

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one-horse open sleigh.

A day or two ago

I thought I'd take a ride,

And soon Miss Fannie Bright

Was seated by my side,

The horse was lean and lank,

Misfortunes seemed his lot,

He got into a drifted bank,

And we, we got upset

Refrain:

Jingle Bells, jingle Bells

Jingle all the way.

Oh, what fun it is to ride

In a one-horse open sleigh.
