Balanced forces
If several forces are applied to an object, they may cancel each other out. The forces are balanced.
- If the forces applied to an object are balanced they will have no effect on its motion.
- if the object is stationary it will remain stationary.
- If the object is moving it will continue to move in the same direction and at the same speed.
Unbalanced forces
If the forces applied to an object do not cancel each other out, they are unbalanced, they will affect its motion.
We can measure the size of a force using Newton meter.
It consists of a spring and a scale. The scale measures how much the spring stretches when a force is applied to it.
The larger the force the more the spring extends. We measure forces in Newtons (N).

Objects in motion stay in motion. Objects at rest stay at rest. Law of Inertia.
Moving objects don't spontaneously Speed up, Slow down, Change direction.

Force is the result of mass and acceleration. How to overcome inertia?
The more force you apply the more it accelerates.
The more mass your bicycle has, the more mass you have too, the more force you have to use to accelerate your bicycle. This force allows you to overcome inertia.
-
If you use your bicycle, so why does it go forward?
For every action there is an equal reaction. As the ball heats the ground because of the downward force on the floor, this is an action. The floor reacts by pushing on the ball, the same force but with opposite direction. The ball and the floor make the action and the reaction.
With the bicycle it's a little complicated. Tires touch the ground pushed backwards against the Earth. The ground pushes forward the same force against each your tire. It' the reaction.
