Jules Adolphe Aime Louis Breton (1827 - 1906) was a 19th-century French Realist painter. His paintings are heavily influenced by the French countryside and his absorption of traditional methods of painting helped Jules Breton make one of the primary transmitters of the beauty and idyllic vision of rural existence.
Breton was born on the 1 of May in 1827 in , a small village. A respect for tradition, a love of the land and for his native region remained central to his art throughout his life and provided the artist with many scenes for his Salon compositions. He met the painter in 1842 who, impressed by his youthful talent, persuaded his family to let him study art.

In the foreground, a man on a cart pulled by two oxen takes up the left side of the painting and a group of women carrying baskets is on the right. The colours are mostly green, red and blue in natural shades and the picture looks very realistic.
